my research about how cameras have changed over the years

Now that you’ve started some initial research, it is time to engage some of the important ideas and debates surrounding your research question.

Part 1: Find five sources that connect to your research question. Take notes as you read. Become familiar with each author’s point of view. What insight do they provide? What ideas are discussed in the texts that you could apply to your own research? What is the rhetorical situation of each source?

Part 2: Once you have read over each article thoroughly, compose an entry for each text in an annotated bibliography. This bibliography contains not only an accurate citation for your sources, but your own typed notes on the relevant content and ideas of each text. Your annotations should sum up key ideas in your own words, and describe the author’s positions as they relate to your topic. Furthermore, use your annotations to engage your texts as you explain them – show how the ideas of the texts relate, agree/disagree, and how each one contributes something distinct to your own research ideas.

All sources should be relevant to your research paper; do not include sources you know will be of little use to you in composing a draft of your research paper. You may use either MLA or APA format for the annotated bibliography, but must be consistent in the style you choose.

Use only secondary (and primary, if applicable) sources in your annotations. Do not use tertiary sources such as Wikipedia, Ask.com, news briefs, etc.

Print this document and bring to class on Tuesday, March 24

Save this document. You will continue to expand and revise it throughout the research process. The full annotated bibliography, including 8-10 sources, is due April 7.

write a 600 700 word descriptive essay over a famous person from the 20th century

For this essay you will write a 600-700 word (not including the heading and title) descriptive essay over a famous person from the 20th century. Try to describe their physical characteristics so that even though I have never met them, I can Google them to compare them to your descriptions. I must get a vivid picture of them in my head through your writing. Personality traits are fine, but you need to focus more on their physical traits.

For example the introduction and conclusion can be biography but the body of the essay (paragraphs 2-4) must focus on the physical traits. The goal is for me to see them from your descriptions–like a police sketch artist.

Often times when I grade these essays I will look at a picture of this person as I read to see how well you describe your person. Many times students will leave off key parts of the face that should be not only been listed, but also described in great detail. Remember all of the parts to a person’s head alone: head, hair, eyes, eye lashes, eye brows, nose, nostrils, cheeks, chin, lips, teeth, ears, earlobes etc. Some of you focused on the clothes your person wears rather than what they look like. When I grade these essays I will draw a picture based on your descriptions as I read so I can see what is left out of your descriptions.

Do NOT include their clothing or attire in your description. What they wear is not important or relevant in this essay.

As always, ALL assignments must be done in APA style, double-spaced, size 12 Times New Roman font. See the sample APA essay at this link and make yours look like it:

forum 2 competing values

MUST BE AT LEAST 350 words.

As you learned last week, a dilemma is a difficult decision – a choice that is difficult because no matter your decision, things may not always work out for all involved. What creates this difficulty is the tension between competing values. In social work, dilemmas occur when one or more of the core social work values compete against one another. Often, a social worker is faced with a decision that can be supported of either side by a social work value. For example, perhaps one side of the decision may be supported by dignity and worth of a person; however, the alternative side of the dilemma may be supported by integrity. The easiest way to conceptualize this would be framing it like this – If I do _____________, that decision would be supported by (social work core value). On the other hand if I do_____________, that would be supported by (social wok core value).

For reference sake, the core values are service, integrity, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, and competence. These are outlined and defined in the NASW Code of Ethics, found in this week’s reading material.

For your discussion board this week please answer the following:

Given the scenario last week, please discuss the competing values in the dilemma. You should not only list them, but explain how these values are relevant, and hat about those values creates that competing tension. Your post should demonstrate that you are able to identify dilemmas, and can analyze the competing values present. This requires that you have a genuine understanding of the core values of social work.

Simply stating competing values is not sufficient here, be sure to explain why they are relevant and how they compete.

write an essay about an article

Essay 2: Evaluating an Author’s Use of Evidence

The Prompt

The second unit for our course focuses on millennials and how the ever-evolving world around us has affected this particular generation. In his article, Joel Stein argues that most of these effects are negative—millennials are lazy, entitled, and technology-obsessed. For your second essay, you will discuss Stein’s article and analyze its use of evidence to support the claims the writer makes. Your essay should do the following:

  1. Introduce the article and discuss its rhetorical situation (author, audience, context, etc.)
  2. Discuss the article’s main argument and some of its most important or interesting claims.
  3. Identify at least two different kinds of evidence Stein uses and provide examples. Then evaluate these examples, focusing on how strong or weak you think this evidence is and how likely it is to convince Stein’s audience.
  4. Conclude by discussing the text overall and whether or not you think Stein makes an effective, convincing argument.

Requirements

Your final essay portfolio should include a copy of your rough draft along with two completed peer review worksheets.

MLA format. This requires: Times New Roman size 12 font, double spacing, 1 inch margins, appropriate heading and page numbers, correct in-text citations, and a Works Cited page.

At least 4-5 full pages, not including Works Cited page.

ASP Undergraduate Academic Writing

Argumentative Essay Assignment

Choose one of the topics below and write an essay. The essay type is argumentative, so remember that it is your job to convince the reader that your point of view is the correct one. The essay needs to be at least 1,000 words in length and should include the following items:

  • An interesting introduction with a clear thesis statement
  • At least 3 body paragraphs (one must be an expansion paragraph such as a counterargument, transition, definition, historical background or extended example)
  • At least one paraphrase and one quote informally cited
  • An effective conclusion

Therefore, you should write 5 or more well-supported paragraphs. Be sure to take some time to organize your thoughts and brainstorm for ideas before you begin writing. Remember to think about the other point of view as well, it will help if you to refute the other side in a counterargument. Use strong and vivid language to support your viewpoint. When referring to the opposition, it’s best to use neutral or weaker language through hedging. If you want to review, I posted some helpful argumentative vocabulary on our Blackboard Course Home Page.

You will have one week to write this paper and submit it through Turnitin on Blackboard. Check your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization errors before sending it to me for grading. Also, you are responsible for locating a source of information that you can be used for the quote and paraphrase. You can use sources such as newspapers, magazines, journals or online websites.
