First introduced in 1970 by Tony Buzan, the goal of a mind map is to identify the core idea and then organize related topics around it. Each subtopic can be broken down further into end nodes if desired. This process is thought to depict the way our brain naturally operates and can aid in the organization of ideas. For this week, you will develop a mind map identifying each stage of a project lifecycle. When developing your mind map, be sure to include several characteristics of each stage, and cite your references when appropriate. Be sure to watch the “What is a Mind Map” video prior to beginning this assignment.

Nice start on the background slides. Be sure to include citations where you have borrowed information from outside sources. I recommend using different facts on these slides other than the year the work was made or the medium. You’ve already stated those facts on the artwork slide. 

There should be a citation where you have the definition of the contextual theory as this idea presumably comes straight from the textbook. A citation for the textbook looks like: (Frank, 2014)Please be sure to write the artwork titles in italics. 

Formal theory is not three parts. There are three separate schools of theories: formal, contextual and expressive. 

The formal theory slide needs more on how Kindred Spirits was influenced by earlier artists. How do you know this? Which earlier artists influence the work? I would review the definition of formal theory, which also looks at the formal (ie visual) aspects of the work.

The contextual theory needs more info on the culture influencing the work, and where you see that influence in the art. 

I think you could give more information about Van Gogh when looking at The Starry Night and using expressive theory to explain it. Remember, critics using this theory want to know ‘who made it and who is he or she?’ so it would be appropriate to look more at just who the artists are and use the information to find powerful personal meanings.

On every artwork slide, you should include the following information:

– title of artwork- artist- year created- medium (that is, oil painting? drawing? bronze sculpture? etc)- there should also be a citation at the bottom, in parentheses

On the references slide, there should be one reference citations for each artwork in your gallery. They each should lead with the artist’s last name and include the artwork date, title, medium and where you found the image.
