Disaster in the Community

Read chapter 22 and 28 of the class textbook and review the attached PowerPoint presentations.  Once done, answer the following questions.

1. Identify and discuss the major health problems among the various homeless aggregates in your community.
2. Mention and discuss three factors that contribute to homelessness and how affects your community
3. Mention and discuss the stages of disaster management.
4. Discuss the impact of disasters on a community.

As stated in the syllabus present your assignment in an APA format word document, Arial 12 font attached to the forum in the discussion tab of the blackboard titled “Week 7 discussion questions” and the SafeAssign exercise in the assignment tab of the blackboard which is a mandatory requirement.  A minimum of 2 evidence-based references (besides the class textbook) no older than 5 years must be used.  You must post two replies to any of your peers sustained with the proper references no older than 5 years as well and make sure the references are properly quoted in your assignment. The replies can’t be posted on the same day, I must see different dates in the replies.   A minimum of 700 words is required (excluding the first and reference page).  Please make sure to follow the instructions as given and use either spell-check or Grammarly before you post your assignment.

 Search and locate an existing instrument that will be used to address your research question. Post the title of the instrument selected and the level of measurement on the tool. Next, post a description of the type of scale used in the instrument. Include a brief discussion of data collection procedures that will be presented in your proposal.

Therapeutic Communication- Case Scenarios

Case #1- The patient was admitted 2 days ago with a diagnosis of cancer. She was informed by her doctor that a course of radiation and chemotherapy was her best option. She became very upset and frightened about the proposed treatment and stated that she wasn’t sure if she would go through with it. The nurse approaches her to discuss how she is feeling today.

Nurse: “How are you doing today, Miss Smith. I was wondering how you were feeling about undergoing radiation and chemotherapy?”

Patient: “I don’t know. I’m not as scared as I was when I got here, but I have a lot of questions about it.”

Nurse: “It sounds like you have given it some thought. I’m sure Dr. Jones could talk with you and answer some of your questions. Would you like to do that?” 

Patient: “I guess so. What do you think?”

Think of a few ways the nurse could respond.

Case #2-  An elderly patient is sitting in bed taking a nap. A tray of uneaten food is on the bedside table. The nurse comes into the room.

Think of a few ideas of what the nurse could say to start a therapeutic conversation with this patient.

Nurse: “…………”

Patient: “Oh, don’t bother with me. I don’t have much time left in this world.

And I don’t have much to live for anyway.”

Nurse: Think of a few therapeutic responses.
