Servant Leadership And Serving Others

Provide a 50 word response to the below answer in apa format with in-text citations and references. The original question is also below.

Over time, I believe I have developed a consistent and successful leadership strategy. A servant leader has the ability to recognize and understand the feelings and emotions that are experienced by their team. I believe empathy is one of the strongest traits of a servant leader. For me, I want to know my staff, both professionally and personally. I want to know their strengths, as well as their weaknesses. I want to know them personally because their personal life can often affect their professional life. I also believe I share a strong sense of openness with my team. In too many organizations it is accepted that the truth is not told, or is actively hidden, from employees. By keeping them informed on all decisions when that may affect them when appropriate, you are far more likely to maintain their buy-in and trust. I never want my team to feel as if I’m withholding information that may be potentially harmful to the team environment. Most importantly, I strive to cultivate a culture of trust within my organization and the nurses I serve. Trust is crucial in servant leadership. It is important that employees know and trust the leader. With no trust, there is no growth, only discontentment.

Serving differs greatly from the secular view of power. The secular view of power is easy to understand, look at any corporation or business. Those that are in power have a title with a great deal of authority. That power allows them to rule over individuals. The goal of getting in power is not having to serve the people around you (Brown, 2016). Serving others in servant leadership means the leader becomes the server. The leader puts his or her team’s needs above their own and helps the team develop and perform as highly as possible. In short, servant leadership principles emphasize facilitation and helping employees grow and harness their maximum potential, empowering both individual team members and the company to be successful (Lindsey, 2019).

Provide a 50 word answer to the below answer in apa format with in-text citations and references. The original question is also provided below.

In my current role in my organization, I serve my staff members by being able to listen to their needs and be their advocate for items that they are requiring to help them serve their patients more effectively and efficiently. I provide staff opportunities to participate in evidence-based projects and committees to help them learn new processes, procedures, and to encourage them to seek opportunities to learn. By doing this, it will make them up to date and proficient in process improvements. By listening, having empathy, and helping staff grow personally and professionally, I strive to follow the servant leadership principles. The secular view works on commanding others and making decisions without the input of the followers ( DelHousaye,2016).

Servant Leadership And Internal Consistency

Provide a response of at least 50 words to below response in apa format witn in-text citations:

The concept of internal consistency between words and actions is called integrity. Leadership integrity has been defined as the perceived pattern of alignment between the leader’s words and deeds or the extent that leaders are seen as practicing what they preach (Leroy, 2012). I have had occasion to witness this type of leadership behavioral integrity many times during my practicum experiences from my preceptor over the past 9 weeks. Since she assumed the role of CNO in her organization in 2017, she has espoused the importance of compassionate care, teamwork, collaboration and the critical role of RNs in the rehabilitation of patients. During countless meetings at all levels, with employees from all departments of the organization, I have witnessed her providing support, guidance, nonjudgmental critique and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and work alongside nurses to get the job done. The text states that the greatest threat to the servant leader is the craving for power (DelHousaye, 2004). I would argue that power is not something that needs to be craved, even by servant leaders, for they possess it already. The danger in power lies in how it is utilized. We all possess power in some form. When used with others in mind and for the good of others, power can be a positive thing. When used with integrity, honesty and charity, power can be a leadership tool.

Original Question:

Servant leaders must be internally consistent with their words and actions. Describe a mentor that you have had that displayed this kind of credibility. Share an example of what you witnessed from this person. Based on the text, contrast your response to the secular view of power.

Servant Leadership And Internal Consistency Ii

Provide a response at least 50 words to the answer in apa format with in-text citations:

A servant leader that I have had that was internally consistent with their words and actions is my current leader. She is consistent with her words and her service to her direct reports. She makes all of us feel valued and respected. She gives us autonomy to be our own leaders and make decisions without feeling that we need to run everything by her. Her motto is to serve the patients first. If we act on patient service first the rest will work itself out. She is continually asking for our ideas and feedback. We are very active in the decision making in our areas. As a servant leader she continuously mentors’ others and encourages furthering education. Although she is supportive and serves next to us, we are also held accountable for our actions and decisions. The biggest characteristic of this leader is that she serves the community first. She encourages service programs that require volunteering and that result in services to the community. Her biggest event that she does every year is coming up next weekend. This is a 5K walk/run for women and children. All proceeds go to our local Children’s Miracle Network. This is a great community event and we all work the event to make this happen. As you can see this leader is not focused on power or authority as a secular leader. She is not focused on herself nor in power of her role. (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004).
