Musculoskeletal and Neurologic System

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research the conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and the neurologic systems. Based on your research and understanding, respond to one of the following scenarios:

  1. A 58-year-old female is admitted for a work up for a complaint of neck and low back pain. During admission, you discover that she underwent a renal transplant six years ago. The patient also had blood work collected. When you review the findings, you notice that her serum calcium is elevated at 13.9 (Normal values range from 8.5 to 10.2 mg/dl), her CBC shows a hematocrit of 33%, and hemoglobin of 11.1 g/dl (normal adult female hematocrit Range: 37-47%, normal adult female hemoglobin range: 12-16 g/dl).

My Chosen Geographic Area Is Boston Mass

National health policy sets the tone for the nation on how to implement, strategize, and achieve specific health goals. However, states often times have the option to not fully implement certain health policies based on their state needs. Thus, health policy varies in every state and can lead to varying health outcomes. This week, you will learn the national- and state-level impact of a healthcare policy.

Read the following case study from your textbook:

  • Case 15: The Diethylstilbestrol Story: An Investigation into the Evolving Public Health Policy for Pharmaceutical Products

Then, visit the Kaiser Family Foundation Web site at Kaiser Family Foundation -Health Policy Research, Analysis, Polling, Facts, Data and Journalism and research health policy at the national and state levels. Narrow down your focus to the geographic region or location you identified in W1: Assignment 3. This would be the same area which you plan to work on for your Course Project.

Then, respond to the following:

  • Using your chosen geographic region or location, select a particular health policy and then discuss its national- and state-level impact on the population.
  • Consider and discuss how the policy was implemented and if it was effective at achieving the intended outcome.
  • Discuss the themes and barriers that arose as a result of implementation to the policy.
  • Provide support/recommendations for how the policy could be improved upon.

Proposal Narrative Draft Outline

It is a good idea to always begin with an outline of the information you eventually want to turn into a full document. Writing the narrative of a grant or contract is no different. A draft outline is a tool that can help you organize your thoughts and develop a narrative that is fully descriptive of what you want to write about.

Using the weekly readings, the South University online library resources, and the Internet, research how to write a draft outline. Then, address the following:

  • Prepare a draft outline that highlights what your proposal narrative might look like for your chosen public health FOA.

As this is an outline, use bullet points to identify the areas your proposal narrative will address. Be sure to include a title page, an abstract, and a reference page.

Submission Details:

  • Write a 3-5-page paper in Word format, and use APA for citation of sources.
  • Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_W2_A2.doc.
  • By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.
  • On a separate page, cite all sources using the APA format.

Mwen Term

You have two very ill patients this week, and each of them presents a very complicated case. First, you have a patient with an ongoing problem that has resisted diagnosis. He was enroute to an evaluation with a neurologist, but on the way to the hospital suddenly fell into a coma (a state of involuntary unconsciousness due to illness or injury) and had to be brought in to your medical facility by ambulance.

You will use at least 10 medical terms to describe this patient, and to refer to the original underlying problem the patient had in the first place. Use the nervous system medical word elements chart and the medical, surgical, and diagnostic terms chart on from your textbook to get you started on the medical terms you will need. You can include specific drugs used in neurological disease as you list at least 3 tests and procedures used.

Your second patient this week is also quite ill and is presenting a number of problems. This patient is diabetic, and also has another Endocrine System disorder (of your choice). Consult the endocrine medical word elements chart as you develop medical terms—include at least 10 that would be appropriate in this case. You should consult  medical, surgical, and diagnostic procedures in your textbook as you select at least 3 tests and procedures for this patient. .
