Case Assignment

For this assignment, read the background information and then learn about Diane Mathis’ experience with non-English-speaking patients.

In a paper:

1. Compare and contrast the range of medical language interpretation and describe what is considered “best practice.”
2. Consider and describe at least two scenarios in situations in which patients are non-English speaking and qualified language interpretation is not provided. What are the key ethical principles to be considered? What are the implications for the patient in each alternative?
3. How would the scenario relate to your own health profession’s code of ethics? If you are not currently working in health care, you should use the code of ethics for the profession you plan to pursue upon graduation.
4. Compare and contrast the model of medical practice between the U.S. (Western scientific paradigm of medicine) and another country with a different culture.
5. Which healthcare model is better and why?

Your rough draft should include a cover slide, the body of the slide, and a reference slide. The presentation should demonstrate a strong thesis statement about your chosen country and its healthcare system.

The presentation should be 14 slides long. (not including title and reference slide). Your research should include at least five research resources. The presentation must use in-text citations and references in APA format.

This course project requires you to select a country (INDIA) and develop a paper about that country’s health delivery system. Your paper will include the following information:

• Demographic information and vital health statistics  about the country
• Current health status and brief history of the current  healthcare system
• Cultural, religious, social, and political factors  that affect the health system
• Challenges of the current healthcare system and issues  being faced
• Future health projection based on resources needed to  address the country’s healthcare issues
• Comparison of the selected country and the U.S. health  system.
• Recommendations on how this country’s health system  can be improved
• Thesis statement attached
