The two theories deal with aspects related to the opposition of thought with respect to nature and humanity. It has helped to open up doors to Western philosophy and literature with a view to explaining moral thinking that persists in the surroundings of the same. This book is an understanding of understanding. it is a simple tool by which comprehension with respect to philosophy can be unearthed and understood by an individual. Two renowned philosophers, world over, that have made immense contribution to this field of moral perfectionism are John Rawls and Immanuel Kant. Both these great minds of the philosophical aspect of life have helped to span and comprehend the surroundings and environment that people survive in, with respect to viewpoints and ways of life. Rawls’ beliefs lay within grasping hold of political thought and philosophy, in terms of understanding liberty, justice, freedom and equality in the presence of the eyes of law, whereas the beliefs of Kant were on the basis of more pragmatic and rational issues that a person deals with in his everyday life. A stark comparison can be observed between the two. beginning with their personal ideas of what philosophy actually is. Rawls’ contribution to political and moral philosophy includes a modern day citation in every field of law and jurisprudence. His works added greatly to helping courts on the basis of ethics and justice. He dealt with understanding and writing about certain terms like reflective equilibrium, overlapping consensus, public reason and the original position. All these experiments and ideas conducted by him were concluded and initiated by a thought process stemming out from the need for understanding moral principles. The original position was a belief with respect to the idea of a perfect society within which a man could reside without having fear of doing wrong. the reflective equilibrium suggested a state of balance among principles to be followed in life in order to respect the existence of other people. These terms were popularised in Rawls’ Theory of Justice. In Political Liberalism, he wrote about the overlapping consensus which helped to understand the relationship of philosophy with political ties and agreements, and how religion and ideology affected the same. Public reason is concerned with accepting and knowing about how to make decisions on the political frontier for the general public. ‘Justice as Fairness’ was the main idea behind the backing of Rawls’ moral perfectionism, thus. In Cities of Words, Cavell reveals the way that, in the light of Aristotle’s claim that it is language that makes human beings “fit for, and fated for, political association,” Emersonian moral perfectionism proposes “confrontation and conversation as the means of determining whether we can live together, accept one another into the aspirations of our lives. (Cavell, Stanley) This view point can be observed from the work of Rawls as well as Kant, because it talks about both political confrontation, that formed a portion of Rawls’ domain and about Kant’s works as is discussed later, with respect to philosophy pertaining to a human being’s life and times.

A standardized test is one that employs a standard method assessment. Such tests include CAT (California Achievement Test), STAR (Standardized Testing And Reporting). These tests are employed to determine if a student is fulfilling certain requirements ordained for his grade, age and intellectual level, and if he does so, he is promoted to the next grade. Some institutions use these tests along with other tools of assessment, while others simply rely on the test scores for assessing a student’s academic performance. Standardized tests are relied upon heavily for assessment purposes. yet there are many benefits as well as upsides associated with them Standardized tests are considered accountability tools for teachers and students (Meador, 2012). The syllabi taught vary from school to school, and also from teacher to teacher. So it is standardized tests that reconcile this gap and ensure that at least a particular guideline is followed regarding teaching and learning (Panday, 2011). By comparing a child’s score with score from other subjects the tests are influential in highlighting the weaknesses and strong sides of a child. at the same time allowing for comparison of a particular subjects score, over time. allowing to infer improvement or (Popham, 1999). Since, these tests are standardized. they allow the scores of students to be compared from school to school or even at a larger scale like states. also allowing for data from social subgroups to be compared (Meador, 2012). Standardized Tests are helpful in testing and Judging a students’ Cognitive abilities and skills (Brassard &amp. Boehm, 2008). Another important feature of standardized tests is that they are completely objective in nature. since, they are marked by computers. they grade every student on same terms and without biases (Meador, 2012). Standardized tests are also criticized by many academic highlighting many upsides in the tests and the assessment they provide. Over and over standardized tests have been criticized as an inaccurate and limited means of assessing a students’ achievement and learning (Fairtest, 2007). Learning cannot be just established through a single measure, it is not uni-dimensional, and requires measurement of dimensions like creativity and ability to learn step-by-step etc. (Panday, 2011). Although standardized tests are capable of assessing a child’s cognitive abilities, yet they need t be culturally and linguistically just in order to do so, but that is not the case with standardized tests in schools, they are too demanding and are not an accurate measure, hence, requiring the use of other assessing mechanisms along with the tests to ensure proper assessment (Brassard &amp. Boehm, 2008). Scores from these tests are considered representing a student’s educational and intellectual capacities, and thus results in their being allocated to inferior educational practices, taking away the opportunity to learn what their fellows will be learning (Weaver, 1995). Standardized tests have also been criticized for leading the curriculum to be exam oriented. only topics covered in the exams are taught and limit the broader coverage and implications of education (Fairtest, 2007).

In the film The Godfather (1972), the Corleone family becomes the embodiment of godlike powers, their spiritual life enhancing the nature of their own power through events of violence. The nature of myth and the way in which it defines powers within the supernatural experience can be seen in the nature of both epics, their respective contemporary cultures reflected through the defined powers that are beyond that of the human world. The Greek mythologies are designed with the expression of god embodying exaggerated human failures of character. The gods of the Greeks were petty, selfish, and full of hubris, even though they looked down on humans and punished them for the same kinds of characteristics. The stories of the gods created a framework in which the nature of mankind was discussed, the challenges that they presented part of the explanation that helped ancient man to understand his world. Both the internal world of men and the external world of nature, its power and imposing destruction, was explained through the mythologies. Myth was the way in which the unknown was approached, mankind needing answers to questions that were often beyond the scope of any technology that could be defined. The nature of The Godfather films is similar in that a larger, mysterious organization was given context and explanation through the vision and myths created by Mario Puzo, the writer of the novel. The novel was then translated into film by Francis Ford Coppola in which not only the myth of the Corleone family was brought into the public consciousness, but the film, itself, gained mythic status. According to Horrocks, The Godfather (1972) “peels away the veneer of civilization, revealing to us a culture steeped in blood and death” (79). The myth of the masculinity of the ‘male corporation’, also found extensively in Western genre films, becomes more organized and brought into the modern context through the ‘mafia’ films as “the shrinking from domesticity and the emphasis on violence and death” creates a resource in which power is shifted to something that is more mythic and grandiose (Horrocks 70). The nature of life is explained in a more visceral plane of existence in which power is placed into a larger than life figure who has the capacity to impose his will as he sees fit. According to Joseph Campbell “It would not be too much to say that myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into the human cultural manifestation” (1). The nature of myth is that it approaches the issues of life through explanations that are defined by the human experience, then expanded to explain that which is beyond explanation into god-like power. The epic mythologies of The Godfather (1972) provides context for explaining the nature of organized crime, spirituality through the Catholic religion giving context to the nature of the violence as it is expressed within the film. The violence of life can seem a wave of climatic terror that creates dangers outside of the home, a world in which a gun or a physical threat lays lurking in the darkness, waiting to shatter the calm of the domestic sphere. In the same way that the Greeks explained tidal waves and storms through the powers of their gods, modern culture explains the terrors of criminality through organized crime with the power of the ’Don’, or the head of the organization seeming to take on godlike limitless control over the organization and those the organization touches.
