Respiratory System Anatomy and Physiology

Objectives

  • Identify the anatomical structures of the respiratory system and their functions
  • Explain the mechanics of breathing
  • Explain internal and external respiration

Assignment Overview

This practice exercise helps students understand the anatomical structures of the respiratory system.

Deliverables

A one- to two-page (250- to 500-word) paper

Step 1  Explain three difficult concepts.

As you review the information presented in this lesson and the textbook, identify the three most difficult concepts (or parts of a concept) in respiratory anatomy and respiration for most anatomy and physiology students. Select one difficult concept from each of these topic areas:

  • Anatomy of the Respiratory System
  • Mechanics of Breathing
  • Respiration

Step 2  Write an explanation of each concept.

Write a clear one-paragraph explanation of each of these three concepts. Use images from the Internet or those that you scan into the document, if possible. At a minimum, submit a one- to two-page (250- to 500-word) pa

Anemia 19375695

In clinical settings, advanced practice nurses often encounter patients with blood disorders such as anemia. Consider the case of a 17-year-old girl who is rushed to the emergency room after suddenly fainting. The girl’s mother reports that her daughter has had difficulty concentrating for the past week, frequently becomes dizzy, and has not been eating normally due to digestion problems. The mother also informs the nurse that their family has a history of anemia. With the family history of anemia, it appears that this is the likely diagnosis. However, in order to properly diagnose and treat the patient, not only must her symptoms and family history be considered, but also factors such as gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior. This poses the question: How do patient factors impact the incidence and prevalence of different types of anemia?

To Prepare

  • Review Chapter 21 in the Huether and McCance text. Reflect on the pathophysiological mechanisms of iron deficiency anemia.
  • Select one of the following types of anemia: pernicious anemia, folate deficiency anemia, sideroblastic anemia, chronic inflammation anemia, or post-hemorrhagic anemia. Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of the anemia you selected.
  • Consider the similarities and differences between iron deficiency anemia and the type of anemia you selected.
  • Reflect on how patient factors such as genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact these anemic disorders.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of the pathophysiological mechanisms of iron deficiency anemia and the anemia you selected. Compare these two types of anemia, as well as their potential causes. Finally, explain how genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact the anemic disorders you selected.

  • Chapter 6, “Blood Disorders”

This chapter begins by exploring the anatomy and physiology of blood and the coagulation system. It then examines two types of anemia caused by red cell disorders. White blood cell disorders and platelet disorders are also examined.

Annotated Bibliography 18935307

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

For your final paper, you will be required to have eight credible and scholarly sources. For this assignment, you must choose seven sources to create an annotated bibliography.

Research Topic

Is telehealthcare a good option for nursing homes?

Thesis

The benefits of telehealthcare outweigh its shortcoming, and it is thus wise to adopt it in the delivery of care with advancement in technologies.

For this homework, annotated bibliography is required only.

For each source, you will first need to have an appropriately formatted APA reference citation, immediately followed with a citation entry.

The citation entry should address the following components:

A short summary of the articles

An evaluation of the author’s background or authority

A description of the intended audience

A comparison of this work with other sources you have selected

An explanation of how this source supports or opposes your topic

Remember that your entire annotated bibliography should be double-spaced with no extra spaces between entries.

Your bibliography needs to be correctly indented with the first line of each reference list citation flush left with the left-hand margin (no indentation), and the second and proceeding lines should have a one-half inch hanging indent from the left-hand margin.

Your annotation begins on the line following the end of the reference, and lines up with the indented portion of the reference.

Your citations should be listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name.

Rubrics:

Sources are highly relevant to the topic and add greatly to research potential. Few, if any, additional sources are needed. All sources are from credible, scholarly, peer-reviewed materials.

All main/critical points are included for each annotation. Annotations succinctly and comprehensively describe the source material.

Evaluation clearly explains why the sources were chosen and thoroughly identifies their degree of relevance to the topic.

The assignment consistently follows current APA format and is free from errors in formatting, citation, and references. No grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors. All sources are cited and referenced correctly.
