Part 1- students will find a current news article (online or in print) about a current political event, issue, election, debate (etc.) that has taken place within the federal level of American governments or politics, in the last 3 months, News articles must be connected the topic(s) assigned to the week that they are due. 

Whats a summary analysis, you say? The grand daddy of  political science, Harold Lasswell, is known for defining Politics. , Ideological values, beliefs, and opinions, aside, when it comes to government and politics, his definition of the word (ironically) is probably the only thing that all mankind can agree on. Lasswell, defines politics, as “who, gets what, where, when, and how”. Apply that definition to the article’s information, or the article’s information to that definition, and write a 10 sentence summary that focuses on critically evaluating what is going on, from your personal perspective. Interject your opinion. You should be making a statement, argument, and your opinion about the subject matter, should be known. However, this needs to be done in a scholarly and academic manner. Focus on explanation, reason and rationalization, to provide a clear opinion statement and discussion of their personal perspective and political position towards the event or issue in their article. In addition, to receive full credit, students MUST include a direct link to the original article’s text that they are using to complete this assignment.

Part 2- students will review summary analyses submissions, made in part 1, and offer a rebuttal to a classmate’s current event analysis, which opposes their own.  MOST IMPORTANTLY,  BE CONSTRUCTIVE in your critiques; and RATIONAL in your explanation of your perspective.  Rebuttals must be 5-10 sentences in length. 

Both parts are to be submitted to this discussion bored. Reply directly to the original post of your peer, when completing part 2. .

You must complete part 1, and post your article with the summary analysis, before you will be able to review and respond to the post’s of your peers.

This assignment, an Article Review, will assist you in thinking critically about sentencing in the United States.  This article should be from a professional or scholarly journal. Additionally, the article selected should be no more than four years old.

Upon selecting the article, please complete an Article Review. The review should include the following,

1. A summary of the article (1/2-1 page).

a. Summarize the main points which the author discusses.

b. Identify the main argument.

c. This summary should provide background for the analysis you provide (see below).

2. An analysis of the article.

a. This is the most important part of the review and should be most of your paper.

b. In this section, you should show that you not only read the article, but also that you are thinking critically about it.

c. Think about the following when analyzing this article:

1. Is the argument clear and organized?

2. Is evidence presented, more than simply opinion?

3. Is the argument logical, does it make sense?

4. Does the argument match with what you know of the topic?

5. Who is the intended audience?

6. Is the argument convincing? Why or why not?

7. Is the argument conventional, controversial, boring, safe, etc.?

8. What suggestions do you have for the author to improve the argument? Did he/she forget to add any significant information (if so, what)?

9. Is this useful for those who study this topic? Why and how?

The completed review should be at least 4 pages in length (not including the title and references pages). All sources used must be cited and referenced according to APA style.

Searching for Grants

Now that you have identified a community need, found a program that addresses the need, and know the financial requirements of the program, you will search for grants to fund the program. Searching for appropriate grants is time consuming. You need to match the details of the program such as intended outcomes, location, target population, and funding needed with the grant requirements. As this is sometimes challenging to do, while you need to find all seven grants described below only two need to be appropriate to fund your program.

There are three parts to this assignment.

Part 1: Locate seven grants. The seven grants are listed below by type. For each grant, include in the assignment a summary of the grant and provide a URL or link to the RFP or instructions for the grant (not just a general list of grants). The seven grants are:

• Government grants
  • Two federal grant opportunities with at least one related to your statement of needs
  • One state grant
  • One local (city, county, or school district) grant
• Foundation sources
  • Two foundation grants- at least one should be appropriate to fund your project/program
• Corporate source
  • One corporate grant

Part 2: Select one of the grants to use for your course project. The grant selected should be appropriate to fund your described program. Discuss why this grant was selected based on its applicability to your grant program. You will use this grant when writing the cover letter and developing the appeal section for your grant proposal.

Part 3: Write a brief summary of what you learned from the search process.

Scenario: A company called Colony Nursery and Landscaping opened a new store located a few hundred miles away from its original location. The company wants to implement an award system that awards their customers with points whenever customers make a purchase, but the two stores are not able to share information. Colony Nursery and Landscaping will need to implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will solve the information silo problem by collecting and making this user data available. Colony Nursery and Landscaping is hoping that by providing customers with this award system, they will be able to maintain competitive advantage. Colony Nursery and Landscaping cannot afford to purchase, develop, or maintain this system on-site, so they are investigating cloud solutions.

In addition, for many organizations, Colony Nursery and Landscaping included, information silos make it difficult to tap into needed information. Discuss whether or not the problem of information silos can be solved by using the cloud. Some organizations do not have the resources to construct or maintain their computer infrastructure, so they utilize cloud services instead to reduce costs and improve scalability. In this assignment, you will discuss whether or not the cloud offers solutions for Colony Nursery and Landscaping and identify an application that the ERP system could provide. Compose an essay that includes the elements listed below.

• Define what an information silo is.
• Explain why information silos are a problem for organizations.
• Discuss why organizations are moving to the cloud.
• Determine whether or not using cloud services, such as a cloud-based host for data storage, would solve the ERP information silo problem at Colony Nursery and Landscaping.
• Explain how using the ERP system and awards program would provide a competitive advantage for Colony Nursery and Landscaping.
• Discuss why the implementation of an ERP system might require business process reengineering for Colony Nursery and Landscaping. Be sure to explain the business processes that will be affected (e.g., the customer awards system). Use diagrams or tables as needed, but this is not required.

Your essay must be a minimum of two pages in length (not counting the title and reference pages), and it must be formatted in APA style. You should include an introduction section that gives background and context to your reader. You must use at least two scholarly resources as references. Sample Ergonomics Program

This assignment is designed to provide an opportunity to apply the concepts presented in the Unit II Lesson regarding the elements of an ergonomics program. Specifically, you will be developing an ergonomics program.

As a graduate of Columbia Southern University’s Safety and Emergency Services program, you have decided to pursue a career as an occupational safety and health consultant. You were recently contacted by Will B. Shafe, the human resource manager at On Call, the company that employs Ms. Handz-Hurt from the unit lesson. According to Mr. Shafe, he is having trouble convincing the leadership at the company to address ergonomics because there is no OSHA ergonomics mandate.

Part 1:

You have agreed to assist Mr. Shafe by preparing a one-page minimum overview explaining the regulatory requirements related to ergonomics, including the history of the OSHA Ergonomic Standard and the benefits of implementing an ergonomics program. Your summary must include references and should be written to convince management to implement a program (after all, you are a consultant and you want their business).

Your overview must include a minimum of two outside sources, one in which must be from the CSU Online Library.

Part 2:

Six weeks later, Mr. Shafe contacts you again with news that the leadership is more open to the idea of implementing an ergonomics program but needs guidance on what should be included in the program. Using the information covered in the unit lesson, prepare a sample ergonomics program for the company.

Your sample program should be three pages in length, not counting the title page and the references page.

Your fully completed assignment, including Part 1 and Part 2 together, should be a minimum of four pages in length, not counting the tile and references pages. Include both parts in one document and label for clarity.
