In Our Work And Personal Lives We Need To Be Able To Identify And Analyze Effect 2

In our work and personal lives, we need to be able to identify and analyze effective verbal and nonverbal communication in various situations. In the same way that you would analyze a work or personal life communication situation, you will be asked to create a short presentation (using media choices below) about the nonverbal communication demonstrated in a series of photographs. In addition to identifying aspects of nonverbal communication, you will also need to show how these elements can affect communication both positive and negatively. Include your observations of how nonverbal elements that you see alter the direction of communication.

  1. Select four of included photographs.
  2. Using either PowerPoint or Prezi, create a presentation that demonstrates your comprehension regarding these communication elements: Please include the following:
    1. A title slide including your name.
    2. Four slides that explain aspects of the nonverbal communication that you see depicted in the photographs. Be sure to include the photograph on the slide. Be as specific and detailed as possible in your description of body language, facial expression, physical distance (if applicable), gesture, and other aspects of nonverbal communication that you see.
  3. Using Screencast-o-matic (screencast-o-matic.com) or similar software, create a short video presentation of your PowerPoint or Prezi. Explain in detail the nonverbal elements of communication that you observe in each of the four photographs you have selected. Video should be between four and seven minutes long. This video should either be of the presentation itself or a hybrid video that includes both the presentation and an inset webcam video.
  4. Upload your video to screencast-o-matic, YouTube, or similar online video sharing site and provide a link to your video. Include your PowerPoint or Prezi with your submission.

In Order To Reduce The Number Of Vacant Rooms The Hotel Overbooks Three Rooms I

In order to reduce the number of vacant rooms the hotel overbooks three rooms, i.e. accepts three more reservations than the number of rooms available. The hotel’s policy is to send any guests who miss out on a room to a competing hotel down the street at Heartbreak’s expense of $125 for each such guest. If the number of no-shows is more than three the hotel has vacant rooms resulting in an opportunity cost of $50 per room.

(a) Using Excel set up a model to simulate 1 month (30 days) of operation to calculate the hotel’s monthly cost due to overbooking and opportunity loss.

You can use this template to guide you:

You need to complete the Cu.ulative probabilities.

All data are shown in rows 3:9 except for cell J9 which will contain a formula.

There should be no numbers in your model which should consist of all formulas from row 13 onwards except for column A.

Column A shows the day number (1 to 30).

In column B random numbers are generated.

In column C there is a LOOKUP function to simulate the number of no-shows to be entered in column C.

In column D compute the number of short rooms (unavailable for guests) by comparing the number of no-shows with the number of rooms decided to be overbooked: e.g. =Max($J$4-C13,0). If the number of rooms overbooked exceeds the number of no-shows there is a shortage of available rooms, else if no-shows exceed rooms overbooked there is no shortage, but possibly vacancies (the formula would be negative but by placing a maximum of zero in the formula it comes out zero (no shortage)).

The short cost in column E is found by multiplying the cell J6 by D13 etc.

In column F (vacant rooms) the formula is the reverse of the one in column D: = max(C13-$J$4,0).

The cost of vacant rooms in column G is the product of the cost in J7 and the number of vacant rooms.

Total cost in column H sums col E and col G.

Copy formulas down to day 30, sum the total costs in col H and divide by the 30 to put the result in I9.

In Our Text The Authors Discuss What It Means To Dissent As A Citizen And Also D

In our text, the authors discuss what it means to dissent as a citizen, and also dissenting in office.  We all have 1st Amendment rights to speech, among other things.  However, this is a tricky subject when considering these rights and our roles as public employees.  This dropbox is meant to provide us with some general and practical guidelines for these issues.

In the book, you will need to pay close attention to pages 54 – 57.  Also, the case, “A Sign of the Times” will be helpful to read and consider while answering these questions.

1.  First of all, what are we talking about when we say conscientious “dissent?”

2.  How might conscientious dissent be a bit different from civil disobedience?  (This is important to understand for this question.  I really want us to think about “conscientious dissent” for this question – not so much about “civil disobedience.”

3.  Under what circumstances might it be OK for a public employee to conscientiously dissent?

    a.  Even if the public employee dissents in an “acceptable” way, can there still be practical ramifications for the employee?  Explain why.

4.  Under what circumstances is not OK for a public employee to conscientiously dissent?

5.  What options might a public manager have when faced with a choice between legal compliance and a violation of a personal, ethical belief?

Again, I don’t have a minimum word count for this.  This concept and understanding the fine line of these topics is the main thing.  Just answer the questions completely.  I want to be able to clearly see that you understand these concepts.
