The essay should be very well focused, concentrating on a specific thesis that is defended thoroughly in each of the body paragraphs. The thesis should be your idea in both its direction and its execution. Keep your idea as the central catalyst for progress. A sample essay would be: “Exploring how certain elements of Blake’s life affect his writing of Songs of Innocence and Experience.”

Please follow the formula from David James “Literary Analysis Research Paper,” which is:

Your ideas + Textual Evidence + Research= Literary analysis Research Paper.

Remember that the essay should focus on the text at all times, you are developing a thesis around your analysis of the text and synthesis of the information you gather during your research, but the focus should be on the text. A minimum of 5 sources should be used. The expectations is that the sources will be used within the essay to back up your points, either by having a critic agree with you. Or demonstrating your control of your topic by arguing against an opposing viewpoint.

Week 6 Assignment

Informative Speech

It’s time to take what you’ve learned from all of your prior presentations and add an element of research to create your Informative Speech. You have to be cautious when choosing an Informative topic, as it’s easy to think an Informative Speech and a Persuasive Speech as the same thing. However an Informative Speech JUST provides information. The most basic informative speech is the kind that teaches us (much in the way the Demonstration Speech taught us) something detailed about a topic with which we are already familiar. For instance, we know George Washington was our first President, but a lot of people don’t know much about his life prior to the military or serving in office. That would make for an interesting Informative Speech. 

With an informative Speech, you’ll want to establish credibility by referencing and citing your materials. For example:  “In the July 13, 2007 edition of the New York Times, John Smith said that George Washington suffered from depression as a young boy.” It is critical that you discuss where you found your information in order to maintain your credibility.

A few parameters:

1.     Your speech should be 5-10 minutes in length.

2.     Feel free to incorporate visual aids. This is not mandatory, but it makes for a better presentation, as we learned last week.

3.     Cite a minimum of two different sources for your materials. Do NOT use Wikipedia as a source. Please copy and paste these sources into the ‘comments’ area when submitting or submit as a paper. I will evaluate your sources.

4.     Be sure to have a good introduction, a body that contains at least three main points (with appropriate supporting evidence) and a conclusion that appropriately wraps everything up.

As always, you may draft your speech word for word, but be very careful not to simply read from your paper! We want eye contact and emotion!  Good luck with this assignment and have fun!

I would imagine being able to find the printer and not being able to connect would be pretty frustrating. One of the first things I would check is how much users are connected to the printer and is the printer in progress. Too much users trying to connect and use a printer could possibly cause problems. Next I would see if you have possibly lost Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection from the printer. Next step I am taking to resolve this is restarting my wireless laptop and restarting my printer. If restarting the printer and computer doesn’t help at all, the next step I am taking is looking at my anti-virus or firewall software and see if my firewall or anti-virus software is possibly blocking my connection to the printer for security reasons. If you see no evidence of your firewall or anti-virus from blocking your connection to the computer it’s time to move on to trying to reconfigure your computer. You could possibly have changed something in your network that could lead to your computer not being able to connect to your printer, like a new router or even possibly a new password used somewhere. 

If your computer and your printer are completely configured together it’s time to move on and check your computer and your printers IP address to see if it is a possibly they have changed. Sometimes IP address expire and your computer or printer can sometimes not be able to recognize each other. If this has not worked either it is time to move on and start looking for updates for both devices. Updates can hold a device back from its full potential. If this is not working you might want to troubleshoot the Bluetooth connection or internet connection of routers or even your device. At this point I feel like there is a problem with the devices NIC or other wireless devices used for connection because these devices should be connected by now. A great biblical quote we could use today is “A friend loves all the times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”(Isaiah 40:28-31)
