This Module’s SLP is intended to allow you to apply the workings of capital budgeting in an experiential way. Using the assigned background readings, as well as some independent peer-reviewed research of your own, apply the basic principles of capital budgeting to a real life, practical case. 1. Identify a healthcare organization (inpatient or outpatient, real or fictitious), and explain the various components of their capital budget. Many examples of capital budgets can be located online with a quick search (search for “healthcare capital budget example”). You may also use one of the example budgets in Dr. Nowicki’s textbook (2018); choose one that is presented within the chapters, or one that is included at the very end of the textbook (see required background reading). Once you identify a capital budget to evaluate, be as detailed as you can in your descriptions of the lines and trends.
2. Evaluate their cash flow. What critical elements (positive or negative) do you see there? What will be the likely net effect on future of that organization?
3. What recommendations do you have for the organization, after seeing their capital budget? Be as specific as you can, backing up your recommendations with peer-reviewed research.

First, we need to be sure you can identify a process; many students have difficulty with that, so refer to your class readings.  Be sure to pick a fairly narrow scope for your process – for example, processing an invoice for payment vs. Accounts Payable. I am also interested in the method to be used to improve the process, not a solution.  (For example, I am not looking for something like:  “The Café where I work is not selling enough coffee. We should use social media to advertise more.”  The discussion here is about identifying a specific process and how a business would go about deciding how to improve that process, who should be involved, what should be considered, and what steps should be taken to be able to analyze the current process and plan for improvement.)  You should employ the techniques discussed in class or those that you find in your research.  Keep in mind that outside resources strengthen your responses

Damian Johnson Student Post

An electronic filing system and a database are different and the databases has far surpasses the filing system. I believe part of our reading was on Optimizing Business Processes and it covered some stuff about centralizing files and utilizing technology so resources and teams can work simultaneously as opposed to in parallel. I agree that utilizing an electronic file system does have many advantages. I would suggest a database for what you are company would benefit from the most. A section on a share drive does have some searching functionality, but a database can set primary keys and foreign keys to files allowing for a faster search and obtaining the information you’re after as opposed to digging through folders to find information, such as, a phone number. There is more that goes behind it and it does take someone to sit down and draw a relational database diagram and then code the database. If you want to get real into it, you can even put a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to work with the database and provide something that is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

Hey Kenneth, this is a very relatable post and I totally can understand the need for great customer service especially in a store where you are making improvements to your home. I have decided to research customer service and great tactics businesses/companies use when performing customer service. After looking at multiple reviews of customers the most common trend I discovered was “speed”. How fast could they get the product delivered or how quick they could get some type of feedback from that service. This is why I would put “response time” as my number one company priority. “One of the biggest factors in good customer service is speed, especially when a client is requesting something that’s time sensitive.” MacDonald, S. (2019). With good customer service many great outcomes can benefit the future of the company such as increase of customers, increase of sales, and more importantly customers will refer your services to others creating more business opportunities.

1. April Battiste Student Post Operational Level: Data that can be required at an operational level is, customer name, address, shipping method, items ordered and quantities. Even though mangers at this level can sometimes be considered the “lower level” they still hold a very important task when it comes to logistics, organizing data and information.

Managers at all organizational levels must carry out certain functions, including leading, organizing, controlling and planning.  For front line managers, the emphasis is on leadership. Operational managers must gain employees “commitments to goals and plans, the work and to company-wide values. (Johnson, 2018.)

This organization can benefit from IT systems by organizing all important customer invoices by name, phone number and location then use that information to influence important decisions in order to make the business thrive. IT systems can also be beneficial to the business by efficient record keeping. Many businesses have regulations that need to be adhered to and recorded proof of documentation can be done with proper IT systems.  IT systems make record keeping easier, faster, and more accurate.  (ECPI University, 2019.)

2. Benito Nieves Student Post: Strategic Level

There are several types of information systems that are used to make business decisions. You have three basic levels at which decisions are made. They are the operational level, the managerial level, and strategic level. Transaction processing systems are used at the operational level, management information systems are used at the middle management level, senior managers use a decision support system, and executives use executive information systems. A senior manager notices that their spoon sales have stayed the same for the second quarter of the year. The manager came to that conclusion after he or she went over the quarterly summary reports. At a group decision meeting they conducted simulations and analysis. After they reviewed their summary report, they decided that it would benefit the company if production was increased and raised their inventory by 20% at each location.

3. Heather Fox Student Post: The operational level is the lowest level on the organization pyramid. Although it is the lowest level, this has no relation to it’s importance. The operational level is just as important as the managerial and strategic levels while encompassing more of the functional areas. Individuals at all levels of the organization can use the information provided by the system as they make their decisions (UMUC, 2019.) As also stated in How Information Supports Decision Making, data are captured at the operational level and made available in appropriate forms at the various managerial levels. The data collected at the operational level provides a foundation for the other levels to build upon.

For example, a manager at the operational level of a retail business may have to make a decision regarding marketing. An advertisement that tested well throughout the rest of the company is not being positively received in her market. Negative feedback was provided from customer surveys that are available to take on receipts. Due to the negative feedback in her community, the manager must act quickly to rectify the situation before it begins effecting sales. Without the data collected on the customer surveys in the customer information system, the manager would not have known about the issue and it would have carried further up the organizational pyramid. This is an issue handled at the operational level by a front-line supervisor.
