Discussion Forum 3: Gender and the Media This discussion

forum is due April 13th

This next forum deals with gender stereotypes in the media. This topic has been a cornerstone

of studying gender from a sociological perspective. You job for this forum is to go to a website

that is organized to bring awareness to certain negative stereotypes concerning women in the

When looking at media images of women, what are some of the ideals presented by the

advertisements? What makes up an “offender”? What constitutes a “winner” according

to about-face.org? What are some of the long-term consequences of negative

stereotypes? Please use the chapter on Gender in your textbook.

The question is essentially four parts that can be answered in one solid, well-written post.

Remember that you must reply to others in the class as well. Make sure to comment on the

strengths and weaknesses of their arguments. Also, remember to use your sociology as well.
