The Value of a Quality Assurance Department

Incrisis hospital has been concerned with the increased number of calls from patients regarding their quality of care from a variety of departments, including its emergency room, and its surgery, oncology, and X-ray/lab departments.

Incrisis is a 100-bed acute facility and was established in 2006. The human resource department hired you as a consultant to review the quality of care issue and make a recommendation on creating a quality assurance department.

Develop a 10- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation to provide to the board of directors.

The presentation should cover the following topics:

• The link between cost and quality in healthcare. Cite at least two studies conducted in the past five years supporting your response.
• The role health insurance plays in cost, quality, and healthcare consumer expectations.
• The various customers (e.g., patients, families, providers, insurance companies) and the healthcare quality from their perspective.
• At least three current business initiatives driving healthcare quality.
• The role that national policy plays on the quality of healthcare.
• A clear explanation of why the quality assurance department should be created.

PART ONE (minumum 400 words)

Consider what was happening in nursing in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s with the change from diploma programs to an associate degree program. Martha Rogers believed that nursing is a separate and essential discipline and a unique field of study. She worked hard to establish nursing in higher education. Explain the importance of this shift and how it impacted nursing as a profession.

PART TWO

1. Discuss and explain King’s Conceptual System Theory. 
   1. First explain the 3 systems and provide examples of each system
   2. Explain how the systems influence goal attainment
   3. How could King’s theory help define a clinical quality problem? 
   4. Apply this theory to a potential practice quality improvement initiative within your clinical practice.
   5. How could a quality committee align outcomes with King’s Conceptual System Theory? 
   6. What additional nursing theory from our readings could also align with an improved quality of practice initiative?

This paper should include 2 outside references and the textbook. This paper should be 1250 to 1500 words in length.  Use SCHOLARLY REFERENCES IN APA FORMAT

Neuman Systems Models is a flexible and adaptive model which can be applied to various aspects of nursing disciplines. Today, the model is used globally as a nursing conceptual model to guide curriculum development, research studies, and clinical practice in the full array of health-care disciplines.

Define a nursing practice area where you could apply Neuman Systems Model. What patient population would you target? How would you use this model to guide best practices? How would nursing outcomes be determined? Use at least one current research article related to your practice example.

Outcome Addressed:

NU310-3: Examine connections among theory and nursing research.  

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to understand how theoretical frameworks relate to and support nursing research and ultimately shape clinical practice and improve patient care.

After completion of this assignment you will be able to apply a theoretical framework to a clinical research problem.

Instructions:

You will create a brief (no more than 10 slides) presentation containing the following information:

1. Identify a clinical problem/topic that interests you or that you experience in your nursing practice.

2. Choose and present a theory (either grand theory or middle range theory) that would support and provide a framework to address the problem/topic.

3. Briefly discuss the theorist who created the theory and the history of how it was developed.

4. Present an example of how this theory has been used in nursing research.

The presentation should include:

• Introductory slide (title, your name,).
• Brief speaker notes for each slide.
• Bullet points and colorful graphs or schematics.
• Reference slide with 3-5 scholarly references.
