Public Health Informatics Week Two Discussion
/in Uncategorized /by developer
You are a public health scientist and informatician assigned to lead a team of environmental specialists investigating an outbreak of lead poisoning in a small community. The suspicion is that the lead poisoning has been caused by pollution generated by a large commercial plant that produces paints under a federal contract. The community water sources have been contaminated with the plant waste. Your assigned task is to organize your team and lead a surveillance investigation. You must meet with the community’s elected leaders to discuss the outbreak, present preliminary outbreak data, and explain how your team will proceed with its investigation (O’Carroll, Yasnoff, Ward, & Ripp, 2010).
You have chosen the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is used in the CDC’S Epi Info™ application to understand, question, interpret, and visualize data.
As the team leader and primary informatician, explain the data collection procedures, which you will instruct the team to use to investigate the outbreak. Why might you choose to use the CDC’s Epi Info™ and its GIS for the outbreak analyses and report? From your readings on theory and strategy-based communication principles, describe what approach you will use to present likely outcomes, and to best answer questions posed by the community leaders. Assume the questions posed will inquire about the community and individual factors affected by the information outcomes.
Submission Details:
- Write your response in a minimum of 300–400 words, providing relevant references. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Respond to at least two students’ postings
- By the due date assigned, respond to the above discussion prompts and submit your responses to the appropriate topic in the Discussion Area.

An informatician conducts data assessments of public health information. They are responsible for organizing, synthesizing, and interpreting data and transforming it into pertinent information that may be used to identify implications for public health program planning and development.
In this assignment, you will continue to use your pre-intervention asthma surveillance data set from the CDC in the Excel spreadsheet to analyze your database from a summary perspective. You will calculate various statistical means of the asthma data in your Excel spreadsheet using Pivot Table reports. You will then answer the following questions in a 3–4-page paper, and embed your pivot tables in your report to explain the summary results.
What statistical mean results do your Pivot Tables demonstrate about this grade school population of students?
Data Means Statistical Questions
- What was the most frequent number of missed days?
- What is the mean (average) number of missed days because of asthmatic conditions?
- Which school had the highest average of missed days?
- Was the school with the highest average of missed days for males the same as the school with the highest average of missed days for females?
- Is the average number of missed days higher among those who answered yes to asthma than the overall average?
- What is the average age of the student population?
In a summary, explain how an informatician can use an outcome measurement of missed school days to monitor and evaluate population health; in this situation, asthma cases in elementary school children. Refer to the following article by Moonie, Sterling, Figgs, and Castro (2006):

Submission Details:
- Give reasons and examples in support of your responses. Cite all sources using APA format.
- Submit a 3–4-page report in a Microsoft Word document to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.

Assignment Expectations
Length: Assignment should be from 3 to 4 pages (750 to 1000 words) in length.
Assessment and Grading: Your paper will be assessed based on the performance assessment grading rubric that is linked within the course. Review it before you begin working on the assignment.
The following guidance appears only in Module 1, but it applies to the assignments throughout the course:
File format: Your work should be prepared using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel depending upon the assignment instructions. If an assignment requires video or voice recordings, use media formats that are supported by MyTLC Courses as noted on the Trident Support page.
In-text citations and references: Be sure that all information and ideas in your papers are supported by in-text citations and corresponding references at the end of the paper.
Scholarly sources: At least two references must be included from academic sources (e.g. peer-reviewed journal articles) and include required readings. Online sources must be limited to credible professional and scholarly publications such as peer-reviewed journal articles, e-books, or specific webpages on websites from a university, government, or nonprofit organization (these have extensions .edu, .gov, or .org). Presenting consumer sources such as e-magazines, newspapers, Wikipedia, WebMD, or other commercial websites (these have extensions .com) as references is not appropriate.
Scholarly writing: Use an academic paper format, not an essay based on your opinions or experience. Avoid using the first person in writing. Synthesize what you learned from the sources you read; write papers in your own words; and cite sources within the text, as well as include a properly formatted reference list. APA format is recommended, but you may use another standardized format.
Use of direct quotes: Use of direct quotes should be avoided, as the focus of the assignments is critical thinking. Only use direct quotes when preserving the exact words of an author is necessary. In the rare instance that directly quoted material is used, it must be properly cited (with quotation marks and page numbers in the in-text citation); quotes should not exceed 5-10% of the total paper content.

In Week 4, you will continue to assume the role of the public health informatician and use your pre-intervention asthma surveillance data set from the CDC to calculate risk/odds ratios and prevalence/incidence rates. Review the data set from a population perspective and calculate various population ratios and rates for the asthma data in your Excel spreadsheet. You will then answer the following questions in a short application paper of 3–4-pages, explaining your results. You may refer to the suggested readings for this week.
Ratios and Rate Questions
[Note: School populations: Asthma elementary student count in this study is 800 for this school year. School’s population (A + B + C + D) = 7,200 students for this school year.]
- Does one school have a higher number of students with asthma?
- Which school has the highest number of students with wheezing?
- How many students had both asthma and wheezing?
- If you have asthma, what are the odds that you also have wheezing?
- Is the odds ratio for bronchitis and RAD lower or higher than asthma and wheezing?
- How many children with wheezing were prescribed medication? From those results, what is the risk ratio?
- Is the risk ratio for being prescribed medication for asthma higher or lower than being prescribed medication for wheezing?
- Are the risk ratios for asthma and wheezing higher for children under the age of 10 than they are for the survey population as a whole?
- What is the student asthma prevalence for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above?
- What is the student asthma incident rate for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above?
In a summary, provide your interpretation of what your statistical ratio and rate calculations results demonstrate about this grade school population of students’ asthma risk and odds ratios, prevalence, and incidence rates. Explain how you may use this data in supporting the need and development of a public health asthma prevention program. You may use the prevalence resources in the links provided for your summary response.
Submission Details:
- Give reasons and examples in support of your responses. Cite all sources using APA format.
- Submit a 3–4-page paper in a Microsoft Word document to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.

This is Master level, please read. I have a Public Health Program FINAL PROJ.Proposal (15 pages) On High Blood Pressure (HTN) to fill in. The outlines are already created ( TOPIC is HTN, Objectives are determined, Community is chosen). I need someone with Health care experience what has done previous Assignments on HTN and it an exert on how to address the problem on different levels: INTRApersonal, INTERpersonal, COMMUNITY level, SOCIETY levels.
1)TOPIC: High blood pressure (hypertension)
2)OBJECTIVES: My health promotion program proposal will focus on optimization of hypertension management in rural communities; 50% reduction in cases of HTN in West Virginia rural community
3)This project focuses on PROGRAM PLANNING MODELS: planning model I have selected for my proposal is the Intervention Mapping Model.
My Health promotion program proposal will focus on optimization of delivery of rural health care through development of an INTERVENTION PROGRAM that increase hypertension awareness and self-management by using community volunteers as health coaches. YOU will fill in with more details in here.
THE INTERVENTION STRATEGIES are to be filled in, I have already chose a Behavioral theory to be applied.
I have uploaded a FINAL PROJ.EXAMPLE in an adobe, from a collegue, for you to use it as INSPIRATION, please do not COPY PASTE anything from that!
