Evaluating EBP Projects

Many factors influence how successfully an EBP Project is implemented and evaluated. As noted in this week’s Learning Resources, using a translation framework can facilitate effective implementation and the evaluation of outcomes.

As you complete Application 4, revisit the evidence-based practice model or framework you selected for your EBP Project (Application 2 [see attached file]). How does the model or framework facilitate the evaluation of outcomes? Would another model or framework better meet the needs of your project?

To prepare for this week’s section of Application 4:

• Continue      (from this week’s Discussion[ use the discussion you are currently working on for me]) to:
  • Identify       an appropriate method for evaluating your outcomes.
  • Develop       new practice guidelines based on the possible results of the evaluation.
  • Create,       if appropriate, new standards of care that would be based on the new practice guidelines.

This paper should be written in APA format with a minimum of 8 scholarly references. All level 1 & 2 headers must be as in the grading rubric (see attached file). The paper must also include an introduction ending with a purpose statement and a conclusion as per APA guidelines. Do not go over the required maximum of 8-page. The Paper must be cited often and throughout.

The full Application 4 is due by Wednesday 10/31/18 before midgnight of this week. Instructions for how to prepare for previous sections of this Application have been provided in Weeks 8 and 9 (see attached files on WK8 & WK9 discussions you previously did for me).

2) Implementing EBP Projects (see attached file on WK9 Discussion)

a) Identify the desired outcomes of your EBP Project.

b) Describe any macro or micro systems issues that may inhibit implementation and strategies for resolving those issues.

c) Explain how resolving your EBP Project issue will improve quality and patient safety.

3) Evaluating EBP Projects (See this week Discussion you are currently working on)

a) Describe evaluation strategies.

b) Formulate new practice guidelines based on the possible results of the evaluation of outcomes.

c) Describe, if appropriate, new standards of care relevant to the new practice guidelines

Review Chapter 8 in the course text. Focus on Kurt Lewin’s change theory, and contrast it with other classic change models and strategies.

Reflect on problems, inefficiencies, and critical issues within a specific department, unit, or area in your organization or one with which you are familiar. Select one issue as a focal point for this assignment, and consider a change that could be made to address the issue.

Think about how the change would align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values as well as relevant professional standards.

Using one of the change models or strategies discussed in Chapter 8, begin formulating a plan for implementing the change within the department/unit. Outline the steps that you and/or others should follow to facilitate the change effort. Align these steps to the change model or strategy you selected.

Determine who should be involved in initiating and managing the change. Consider the skills and characteristics that are necessary to facilitate this change effort.

Preventing use of tobacco and helping those who utilize it to stop can have continuing benefits for people and for the public health in general. Advanced practice nurses can engage in activism and prevent Big Tobacco from further disabling the health of many communities by developing and implementing tobacco management programs to assist to reduce or prevent the use of tobacco. These programs can make use of taxation, mass-media campaigns, restrictions and easily accessible and effective behavioral analysis and tobacco ending medications. The programs can provide services to different target audiences, including young individuals, people with co morbid health issues, those of different socioeconomic status and ethnicities, and women (Diem & Moyer, 2015). A comprehensive approach to tobacco management results in changes that affect the whole population, from the person to the community level, by addressing the social, political economic, cultural and environmental aspects that sustain the using and not using of tobacco. 

Another way that advanced practice nurses can engage in activism and prevent Big Tobacco from further disabling the health of many communities is through the use of Evidence-based best practices for tobacco control (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014). Programs for tobacco control reduce use of tobacco at the populace level by building tobacco-free outdoor and indoor areas, limiting the access of young people to tobacco products, restricting tobacco marketing, having continuous counter marketing campaigns, increasing the price of tobacco products, and offering easily available tobacco termination services and products.

In the political arena, practicing nurses can engage legislatures while seeking office and present their proposals on what they could like to be passed into law in the quest to mitigate negative effects of tobacco use. In addition, they can utilize their advocacy abilities to push for policy changes by the various policy makers including as the total retail outlets, increasing the number and area of ‘no smoking zones’ and pushing for exponential escalation of tobacco taxes. The change in policy may also seek to limit the advertisement of tobacco products in mass media while making it a condition to explicitly display warning signs on the packets containing the products.
