Servant leadership is different than other leadership styles. This leadership style allows leaders to share power and to put the needs of the employees first and helps others develop and perform as high as possible. The person who finds himself in a position of leadership must carefully steward his responsibility as a gift from God (DelHousaye,2004). The biblical worldview would state that this loving relationship is related to two principles: honor and protect. In servant leadership the leader who values everyone’s contributions regularly seeks out their opinions. This is one way a leader honors the employee by valuing them. The leader may also step in and helps people with the needs that they are experiencing at home or in the workplace. The employee is provided opportunities of growth and identifies any barriers that may be rise up to prevent that from happening. This is an example of protecting the employee and acting as their advocate as a person, not only as an employee. By protecting and honoring your employees, they will understand the commitment you have in them. This will important to improve employee engagement and boost their confidence in themselves and their workplace.

The two words honor, and protection are equally important in guiding servant leadership. A servant leader uses honor to show right and wrong when exemplifying moral standards of conduct. (McCuistion, 2018) When defining the word honor in leadership we learn that it means to “set values upon someone or something to revere and to reward.” (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004) A servant leader provides protection to their employees. This requires the leader to create an environment of protection that results in success in the lives of those that the leader protects. I feel as if my current leader provides these two principles. I feel that I can flourish under her successfully and that she always follows values that lead us to reward. (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004)

 A 38-year-old male had a 3-week history of fatigue and lethargy with intermittent complaints of headache, fever, chills, myalgia, and arthralgia. According to the history, the patient’s symptoms began shortly after a camping vacation. He recalled a bug bite and rash on his thigh immediately after the trip. The following studies were ordered: 

Studies Results Lyme disease test, Elevated IgM antibody titers against Borrelia burgdorferi (normal: low) Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), 30 mm/hour (normal: ≤15 mm/hour) Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), 32 units/L (normal: 8-20 units/L) Hemoglobin (Hgb), 12 g/dL (normal: 14-18 g/dL) Hematocrit (Hct), 36% (normal: 42%-52%) Rheumatoid factor (RF), Negative (normal: negative) Antinuclear antibodies (ANA), Negative (normal: negative) 

Diagnostic Analysis Based on the patient’s history of camping in the woods and an insect bite and rash on the thigh, Lyme disease was suspected. Early in the course of this disease, testing for specific immunoglobulin (Ig) M antibodies against B. burgdorferi is the most helpful in diagnosing Lyme disease. An elevated ESR, increased AST levels, and mild anemia are frequently seen early in this disease. RF and ANA abnormalities are usually absent.
