millennials essays

Essay 2: Evaluating an Author’s Use of Evidence

The Prompt

The second unit for our course focuses on millennials and how the ever-evolving world around us has affected this particular generation. In his article, Joel Stein argues that most of these effects are negative—millennials are lazy, entitled, and technology-obsessed. For your second essay, you will discuss Stein’s article and analyze its use of evidence to support the claims the writer makes. Your essay should do the following:

  • Introduce the article and discuss its rhetorical situation (author, audience, context, etc.)
  • Discuss the article’s main argument and some of its most important or interesting claims.
  • Identify at least two different kinds of evidence Stein uses and provide examples. Then evaluate these examples, focusing on how strong or weak you think this evidence is and how likely it is to convince Stein’s audience.
  • Conclude by discussing the text overall and whether or not you think Stein makes an effective, convincing argument.

Requirements

Your final essay portfolio should include a copy of your rough draft along with two completed peer review worksheets.

MLA format. This requires: Times New Roman size 12 font, double spacing, 1 inch margins, appropriate heading and page numbers, correct in-text citations, and a Works Cited page.

At least
4-5 full pages, not including Works Cited page

kingston bryce risk mitigation plan 5

Competency

Classify the components of project planning.

Scenario

In your role as a Project Manager for Kingston-Bryce Limited you have been assigned to create a risk mitigation plan. Risk mitigation is a key component of project planning because you are trying to look at all of the alternatives while planning everything for a project. The Board of Directors for Kingston-Bryce Limited (KBL) is eager to move forward with the acquisition of their competitor. The acquisition of the competitor will enable KBL to expand operations and triple their workforce and will take 18 months to complete with a projected cost of $5 million. The project could be at risk because there have been rumors that another buyer has entered a bid to buy KBL’s competitor. In order for this acquisition to be successful, you will need to use your project management skills to ensure success and that the project stays on budget and time.

Instructions

Your task is to create a risk mitigation plan in Microsoft Word to ensure that KBL has documentation to complete the acquisition. Detail the risks the project may be subjected to and what actions will be taken to minimize the impact of these risks on your project. You will need to create a list of risks that could potentially happen in the project. Be creative!

Think about examples such as cost, contractual, financial, political, or technical risks that might occur when launching a project. A key point to remember is that risks are broken down into the following broad categories, which should be included in your plan:

  • Risk avoidance
  • Risk sharing
  • Risk reduction
  • Risk transfer

  • prognosis, treatments, might we expect a chronic phase?
  • public health impact; who does this effect, how, why, where?

Students should rely on academic literature and reputable information sources. Papers should be a minimum of 5 pages of text, double spaced, maximum of 8. Minimum of five sources required. The paper and bibliography should be formatted in APA style. Please provide sub-headings to organize your material. If you are not familiar with APA style, I recommend reviewing directions through the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). They cover all the requirements extensively. We will also go over this briefly in class.

You may use only 1 website as a source. Rely on published literature from academic journals as much as possible. Often, when you find information on a website (like the CDC) they have gathered that from their own published literature. Look for a citation or PDF that you can use as your source, instead of citing the URL.

Grades are based on content (70%), and Mechanics (30%). See the attached rubric for more information on how grades will be assessed.

I encourage you to visit the writing center as you edit your paper. Students who visit the writing center will receive an automatic 2 point addition to their paper grade (for each paper). Just make sure to tell them which class and instructor this paper is for.
