What is a project, and what are its main attributes? How is a project different from what most people do in their day-to-day jobs? Discuss the importance of top management commitment and the development of standards for successful project management. Provide examples to illustrate the importance of these items based on your experience on any type of project. Discuss the unique challenges that an IT project presents.

In your peer responses, be sure discuss your thoughts on project management, your views on project’s attributes, and your thoughts on successful project management. You can take opposing/differing views than your peers but be sure to provide applicable resources as needed. Properly provide examples in your peer responses as well and any additional challenges you see with IT projects.

Please make your initial post substantive. A substantive post will do at least TWO of the following:

• Ask an interesting, thoughtful question pertaining to the topic
• Provide extensive additional information on the topic
• Explain, define, or analyze the topic in detail
• Share an applicable personal experience
• Provide an outside source that applies to the topic, along with additional information about the topic or the source.
• Make an argument concerning the topic.

At least one scholarly source should be used in the initial discussion thread. Use proper citations and references in your post.

PROBLEM 1 The uniformly distributed loaded composite steel beam is shown in Figure 1(a). The steel composite sections consist of two steel plate 230×20 mm and a universal beam section 610UB125 are bolted together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 1(b). The 610UB125 sectional properties are given in Figure 1(c) and Table 1. The modulus of elasticity for steel is 200 GPa. For the beam and loading shown in Figure 1, determine: 1) the equation of the elastic curve in the terms of w, L, E, and I ; 2) the deflection at midspan of B; 3) the slope at A.PROBLEM 2 Knowing that beam AB is a composite section and a 300PFC and a 610UB125 are welded together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 2(b). P = 60 kN, L = 2 m, and E = 200 GPa, determine: 1) the elastic curve equation in term of P, L, E and I 2) the slope at A; 3) the deflection at C.

PROBLEM 3 For the beam and loading shown in Figure 3, 1) express the magnitude and location of the maximum deflection in the terms of w0, L, E, and I. 2) Calculate the value of the maximum deflection, assuming that beam AB is a 310UB46.2 section (See Table 2) and that w0 = 68 kN/m, L = 5.5 m and E = 200 GPa.

PROBLEM 4 For the cantilever beam and loading shown Figure 4, use principle of superposition to determine the slope and deflection at point C. (Hint: Use the Beam Deflections and Slopes Table on page A29, Beer et al., Textbook or next page)

Apply a critical thinking principle to readings 7-10 (the “noteworthy debates” readings). Again: for this class, we mean something specific by critical thinking (ruling out rival hypotheses, falsifiability, replicability, extraordinary claims, Occam’s razor, correlation vs. causation). Ask me if you have questions! You should use a different one for each reading, but one repeat is fine. You do not have to conclude that the readings are wrong – if there is evidence of replicability or falsifiability, you can say so, just provide evidence to back up your claim and explain why. If you use direct quotes, you must also state the quote in your own words immediately to demonstrate your understanding.

2. Look into the mirror!

A. Imagine a way—based in the readings—that your future self could act or benefit from unconscious bias. Please pick two unique examples: a way that unconscious bias could affect you AND a way that you could contribute to or benefit from systemic bias.

B. How might you use the threat-based approach to prejudice to reduce your own biases or the biases of those around you?

3. Again, define social justice as you see it, using the readings to explain your perspective. How do these biases occur? Which method of reducing prejudice that we discussed do you think will best help us achieve social justice as a society?

Make sure to note any changes in how you understand the topics of social justice.
