Disciplinary Fieldwork Paper: The Paper is your chance to write about your disciplinary perspective as a lens on the complex problem. That’s two foci, the disciplinary perspective itself and how the disciplinary perspective profiles or explains the complex problem.

It might be useful to think of the paper as four sections or moments: Introduction, Assumptions or Epistemology, Concepts or Theories, Methods. Feel free to include Phenomenon or Data but it is not expected.

Criteria: 4 full pages min./ 5 pages max.

The better papers will clearly articulate how all three elements are exemplified in the discipline’s approach to the complex problem. Terms will be appropriately defined throughout, including specific disciplinary concepts or theories that the discipline uses in explaining the problem. All citations will be APA style in text and in references. There will be accurate literacy in syntax, semantics, grammar, spelling. These two previous assignments were designed to function as the building blocks of this Rogerian essay. Issues, Theories & Practice in Organizational Behavior paper requires each student to select a critical organizational behavior issue facing hospitality or tourism industry over the next two years. Each student must think about and inform on why the chosen topic should be considered a most important issue. The student must provide a succinct literature review including background on the issue, historical context that leads to a fundamental explanation the issue, and key management objectives and functions. A proposal of what needs be done to meet and resolve the issue going forward is also required. I believe that a nurse should definitely not perform a requested duty that is beyond the scope of practice as outlined in the state’s nurse practice act because they may be subject to disciplinary action by the state’s regulatory agency.

It is described in detail within each state’s nurse practice act and is passed by the state’s legislature; and it has the full force and effect of the law (Russell, 2012, p. 37). It would be considered to be against the law.

The Board of Nursing (BON) is charged with “maintaining the balance between the rights of the nurse to practice nursing and the responsibility to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of its citizens” (Brous as cited in Russell, 2012, p. 37). The scope of practice the nurse is to practice within is meant to define negligent or incompetent behavior, and to preserve the safety of the patient.

Westrick (2014) mentions that, “in order to maintain a license in good standing, a person must comply with the rules and regulations as specified in the nurse practice act (NPA) and regulatory authority (typically a board of nursing), of the state where the license is issued … or the state board can discipline a license” (p. 8). The nurse has these guidelines and reasoning not to go beyond their scope of practice.
