In this assignment, you must list three sources that you have encountered in your research process.

You will list them as they would appear on a Works Cited page in MLA format. What makes this different than a Works Cited is that beneath each entry in your list, you must include a paragraph that does each of the following: 1) summarizes the source; 2) evaluates the source; and 3) describes how you might use this source in your paper. Each of these points should be achieved in two or three sentences, resulting in a paragraph of somewhere between six to twelve sentences. For instance, consider the following annotated bibliography entry:

Smith, Joe. “How evaluation-hungry administrators are ruining education.” The Chronicle of Education in America. 85 (2004): 319-334. Webline. Web. 23 Dec. 2012

Smith argues that school administrators, having created a social class for themselves based on no real merit, need to maintain some semblance of personal integrity. To do this, they foist tests and measurements on an overburdened population of teachers and trick them into “proving” themselves by rules they did not choose. Smith’s argument, though enjoyable to read by someone who already agrees with him, lacks logical merit. His ad hominem attacks on administrators overlook key evidence that could actually make his case more logical. In addition, he sometimes misconstrues the arguments of his opponents because of his emotional bias. In spite of its weaknesses, this article helps me establish the breadth and scope of the wider argument in academia concerning evaluation and measurement. In addition, by pointing out some of Smith’s weaknesses, I can establish the strength of my argument by opposition.

Topic and Structure:

Annotated Bibliography – Review four potential sources for your research paper project (you should already have your research essay topic chosen), and select two to explore further, with at least one qualifying as a periodical.

Here are some possible places to search for credible sources:

This assignment does not follow the standard introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion format; instead, you will simply create three well-developed paragraphs per source, each with a specific objective, for six paragraphs total. For each of your two chosen resources, you will summarize the material, assess the source’s content, and reflect on its value for your research paper project. Some sources are long and contain main ideas and subtopics, so be sure to focus your assignment on ideas that are relevant to your research paper topic. This essay also requires a particular format in which you will summarize, assess, and reflect on one source in full before you move to the next one. See the sample hereunder “Sample MLA Annotation” for format details.

• Make the title of your annotated bibliography your research paper project’s topic.
• On the line under your title, but left-aligned on the page, include your proposed research essay’s thesis so that graders can provide some preliminary feedback.

Length: This piece should be approximately 1-2 double-spaced pages or 500 words.

In this course, there are numerous resources; there are assigned weekly readings, valuable “Optional Audio and/or Visual Items” (button on L-hand side of the site), databases that may be new to you, and scholarly references located through your literature searches. As you save, bookmark, and/or reference any of these items for this course, you may consider placing them in the annotated bibliography. Further, consider what may be of use to you in the remainder of the program (e.g., Capstone course, 49800) and your professional career. For example, you will need to create a PICO question in this course. Any EBP resources you use now many be of use to you during your Capstone project as well, as the project is an EBP project and you will be required to create a PICO question then as well. Therefore, consider placing those resources in your annotated bibliography as well. This assignment is intended to create something for you to refer to during this course as you work on the assigned project as well as to take with you at the end of this course. As such, it should hold value to you.

Each of your annotations should summarize, assess, and reflect. Please see the Purdue OWL website for further information on how to create a summary and evaluation of each resource:  Annotated Bibliographies and Samples. Well-informed opinions are encouraged in each annotation; if you find a website that isn’t user-friendly, for example, state that in your evaluation of the resource. Including such evaluations in your annotated bibliography will ensure that your future self will be well-informed.

Prior to your list of annotations, write a brief paragraph at the beginning of your document that describes your rationale for selecting included annotations. There is no minimum or maximum number of annotations. There is no required content or resources that must be included. The intent is to have a repository of resources deemed useful by you and for you. 

Present your Annotated Bibliography in a scholarly and professional manner (i.e., APA formatting and no errors in spelling or grammar).

Extra Credit Assignment Worth: 10 points

This is a 2-part assignment due Monday, December 16th, at 11:59pm. To receive full credit, students are to do the following:

Select 1 scholarly practice-based articles related to nursing theory and dated within the past 5 years, 2014 until current. Do not select a non-practice based article. Then analyze the article, be sure to address the following for the selected article:
