This paper seeks to analyze how a local government supported community based clinic such as the South Queens Community Health Center manages its health services in a multi-cultural neighborhood and what could possibly be done to improve it.

Queens Medical Center is a state-of-the-art medical facility located at 82-68 164th Street Jamaica, New York with 279 (Queens Hospital 2010 statistics) beds giving various health services from Cardiology, Dentistry, Geriatrics/Senior Care, Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pediatric Specialties, Radiology, Surgery, Urology and Victim Services. In response to growing demands on community based health services, the Queens Hospital built three affiliate medical centers wherein one of which is the South Queens Community Health Center.

The role of a community based center is crucial in the continuous delivery of health services and promotion of a health seeking behavior to the people. In the case of South Queens Community Health Center, much is expected and social responsibility is enormous as it serves a community with over 2.2 M population of multi-cultural ethnicity belonging to white American, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Hispanic (Dept. of Health 2008 Health Indicator).

In health service delivery, availability pertains to multiple factors that ensure convenience of the clients. Availability could be about the schedules, clinic hours, or visiting hours. It could also be the kinds of services offered by the health institution, the staffing, the medical equipment and supplies, or the route and transportation to the health vicinity. In the case of South Queens Community Health Center, availability has been evaluated in all factors presented above.

In addition, parents can become more involved in helping their children’s schooling through tutoring, modeling desired behavior and monitoring homework. Perhaps one of the most important schooling practices is parents’ work in the classroom.

There are literally hundreds of journal articles, books and stand-alone reports on the subject of parent involvement in the classroom. These writings give expert opinions, offering sufficient information on the topic of parent involvement as a schooling practice. It is apparent that parent involvement in the class and individual student learning is positively linked to achievement. Interestingly, the more a parent is involved in a student’s learning process, the more beneficial the achievement effects are. This holds true for all the aforementioned types of parent involvement in the schooling process regardless of the age of the student. However, the most effectual modes of parent participation are those that involve parents working candidly with their children in learning activities at school. Also, one of the major reasons youth do not do their self-care well is because they are unsure of how to deal with their diabetes during social situations.

The purpose of my project was to teach young adults between the ages of 15 and 17 how to manage their diabetes (Type 1-Insulin dependent diabetes) and to make sure that they are getting the proper help and resources where needed. Many young adults have a challenge dealing with diabetes because they have to take care of themselves differently than before they had the disease.

There are a variety of ways to assess students in learning. To assess the learners in this situation we did a pre and post-test. The test was the same test both times, and it was a true/false test that was geared towards the objectives (See Appendix). The questions on the tests were taken from various materials received from diabetic organizations. It was important to provide and test on factual information in order to make sure that students understood what to do.&nbsp.
