Student Answer/Post: Trends are altering or making job performance harder to manage because things have changed from what they use to be. There are 10 trends that have been identified that need to be addressed in order to improve job performance. One of the trends that affect performance behavior is that “Organizations are clamoring for more agile, diverse, and younger leaders, as well as new leadership models that capture the “digital way” to run businesses.” (Bersin, J. ,Pelster, B., Schwartz, J., & van der Vyver, B. , 2017) Older, more experienced workers are quickly being replaced by millennial as digital programs are being integrated into the workplace. They find it difficult to perform at the pace as their younger counterparts. Not being able to be as productive as they once did is difficult. Millennial perform differently than Baby Boomers and Managers are finding it harder to track individual performances as teams are now being used more and more to complete projects. Within those teams, there is generally a great diversity and different levels of experience therefore it is easier to track the groups progress as opposed to the individual.
Job Performance is formally defined as the value of the set of employee behaviors that contribute either positively or negatively to organizational goal accomplishment. (Coquitt,J., Lepine, J., & Wesson, M., 2013) Job performance behavior can be affect if you are struggling to perform at a level in which you are not accustomed to. Some older employees find it harder to keep when the pace has picked up due to the integration of new computer programs, faster working millennial, and even the demand in which the deadlines have been set. The working world is fast moving in the direction of computers. These programs are becoming so advanced, Managers are struggling to stay one step ahead. The future of technology is here and whether we are ready for it or not and unfortunately, some of us are not going to make the cut.
Question #2 Using the side bars found in this week’s content tab, along with our reading material, explain how the trends are altering or making job commitment harder to manage.
· Be sure to identify in the answer what is meant by job commitment.
· Explain how the trend affects job commitment.
· Identify the challenge the trend has for the manager.

Student Answer/Post: Employee commitment is the bond employees experience with their organization. Employees who are committed to their organization feel they fit in and understand the goals of the organization. (Hoek, J., 2016) Today, employee commitment is not as great as it once was. Employees are not as committed as our parents were in their careers. Individuals today are willing to leave their job if another opportunity presents itself. There does not seem to be much loyalty and some find themselves on a constant search for a job closer to home, in a favored state/country, and of course a higher income. Our parents wanted a career while we just want a job.
Culture plays a huge role in how job commitment is affected. Younger employees are less committed as they are still figuring out what they want to do. Many are not expecting to be in the same job 2-5 years down the road. It is about earning the pay to maintain the lifestyle. Employers are taking notice that employees are not as committed and are now taking action to make themselves more appealing competitors in the workforce. On the continuance commitment front creating a salary and benefits package that makes people financially compelled to stay is a priority. Continuance commitment is when and employee needs to stay. Studies suggest that pay level and benefits are the strongest predictor of voluntary commitment coming in close is advancement. (Colquitt, J., LePine, J. A., & Wesson, M. J., 2013, pg.81)
The challenge will be retaining good workers while still while maintaining productivity within the workplace. No company wants to be in a constant state or interviewing and rehiring. Managers need to research what the trends are and reinvent ways to remain relevant. My employers offer training, employee team building activities, incentives, family events, etc. which keeps the employees motivated.

In addition to writing about macroeconomic concepts, it’s equally important to be able to convey your understanding of these concepts by communicating them to others. In the workplace you might do this by writing briefs (like you did for Assignment 1), creating presentations, or writing reports for your manager or team. An example final report and optional template are provided below.
For this Final Report assignment, you can build off your previous economic brief and selected industry from Assignment 1, which is Finance and Insurance and examine one of the macroeconomic indicators or policies below:
Example Final Report, Assignment 2 Template, Strayer Writing Standards
Instructions
Use Microsoft Word to prepare a Final Report that is a minimum of two to three (2-3) pages long in which you:
1. Introduce your selected industry with a brief one-paragraph introduction. Refer to the NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) to review the details about your industry.
2. Assess your selected industry’s relative size and growth rate in the economy.
These macroeconomic resources will help you find the size and growth rate of your industry in the U.S. economy and/or relative to GDP:
• Real GDP – Select Section 1, then table 1.1.6 (select MODIFY to change the year range and frequency). Data is from Bureau of Economic Analysis (bea.gov).
• % Change in Real GDP – Select Section 1, then table 1.1.1 (select MODIFY to change the year range and frequency). Data is from Bureau of Economic Analysis (bea.gov).

These resources are available to help you measure and track macroeconomic indicators and outcomes of macroeconomic policies. You’ll use one or more depending on the macroeconomic indicator selected.
• Unemployment rates – Data is from Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov).

ABC Corporation has an old office building with out of date elevators, which need to be modernized or replaced. You have been hired to evaluate the current use of the elevators so they can make an appropriate decision. You decide a computer simulation would be the best strategy to evaluate the use of the elevator, so you go to the office building to collect some actual data on the use of the elevator. You record actual usage (see input file) and observe the following facts:
You decide to use stacks. In the simulation, at each floor, you do the following:
After your simulation is finished, print out the total number of people who rode, the number of time someone could not ride because it was full, the number of empty occasions, etc.
The input you collected is in a separate file. Since you did not know the name of the people working at ABC Corporation, you amused yourself by making up names for them. The data is the name followed by the entrance floor, followed by the exit floor. You end up going back a second time to collect addition data (student generated)
Summarize your findings and recommendations in a report to ABC Corporation. Explain your strategy and the program you wrote in detail. Explain what you learned about elevator use at ABC and make recommendations. Be sure to consider the second elevator. As an addendum, you write report for in-house use, in which you justify your
simulation design choices and why a stack is an appropriate choice. Defend your implementation decisions. Discuss what you leaned, and what you would change going forward with the simulation. Be sure to consider efficiency consideration (both time and space)
Here is input data:
