2. Understand the historical context of the media in the development of societal standards and perceptions.
3. Analyze modern trends of the media in the development of societal standards and perceptions.
4. Critically evaluate the relation between the historical and contemporary background of media influences to allow for a global and detailed view of the critical components responsible for impacting society.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the independent and dependent nature of media sources and the apparent consequences of such systems.
6. Understand the evolving nature of media sources in a technologically advanced society.
7. Evaluate the ability of individuals to mitigate the psychological impact of media influences on their daily lives and over time.
8. Critically evaluate research studies focused on psychology and the media.

Find six journal articles related to the topic chosen. The journal articles have to be from a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal(s). The articles do not need to be empirical studies but are required to be from primary sources. Finally, due to the nature of the changing media landscape you should only use current research. Current research for our purposes is an article that was published within the last 5 to 6 years.

Contribution of the paper to the Literature. You need to explain how your paper contributes to the literature surrounding your outline.

Explain how you expect the paper to contribute knowledge and insight into the context supporting the topic. Remember, every topic has supporting context—without it, you do not have the people and processes allowing the topic to exist. So, make sure you have a contribution as to help others enhance their understanding of the topic.

Gap in the Literature. Explain how your paper fills in a missing segment (or gap) in the literature. Your unique perspective will contribute something new. Describe that niche here and how it helps build upon previous literature.

Successful completion of a doctoral dissertation requires significant amounts of independent reading on the research topic. This allows the doctoral learner/researcher to become familiar with the scope of the topic and to identify gaps or tensions within the existing literature on the topic. These gaps and tensions become the source of the dissertation research. In this assignment, you will read and annotate potential sources in your dissertation field of interest.
