Individual Elevator Pitch
The Pitch is designed to focus on selling yourself to an employer for a job interview, job opportunity, job promotion or internship. Some students are looking for internships, entry level positions and other students are looking to move up in a current company or leverage their experience with another company. This Pitch assumes you have an opportunity to introduce yourself (the pitch) to a particular decision maker and ask for an appointment
Objective:
Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. It often happens that we run into someone who could offer us an opportunity and we are not prepared. This exercise focuses your thinking about your qualifications and your objectives so that you can tell people your personal pitch in one to two minutes.
Instructions:
An elevator pitch is a short overview your accomplishments, goals, services, etc. and is typically used as an introduction in a business setting. This can be a powerful tool to sell yourself or your ideas. The pitch should be short and should be delivered in the time it takes you to ride an elevator from the 20th floor to the ground floor.
Example: Imagine you are in the elevator with an executive from Sony Music Entertainment. You have an opportunity to make an introduction. Are you prepared? What will you say? Use your “dream person” to run into in the elevator for your Pitch.
1.Background research to be listed BEFORE you begin your Pitch.
a. Clarify your Job target – List and present your research of your target company and person (research the person/position in charge of the job you want)
b. List your education, skills, accomplishments, projects, internships, work experiences, awards, etc. and then determine what is relevant to this individual elevator pitch.
2. Actual Pitch
You should tailor your discussion per person, per job, per company, etc.
Make sure your pitch answers the questions:
Who are you? Hi, My name is……. and I am…….What are your qualifications?
Why are you interested in this position/department, etc. with this company?
Why are you uniquely qualified for this position? (Why are you the best person to hire for this position?)
What is it about you that will benefit the company overall?
3. Ask for a follow up action step, appointment, interview, phone call, etc.
Deliverable:
Elevator Pitch, following the instructions and listed on a Word Document uploaded to the Platform.

Boston Chicken, Inc.
Your completed individual case analysis is due the last day of Session eleven and should be submitted in your assignment folder. Late submits will be penalized a grade for each day late.
Boston Chicken, Inc.
Boston Chicken developed a new segment of the fast food restaurant business, home-cooked food. To take advantage of this innovation the company sought to grow rapidly by signing franchise agreements with large area developers. However, it also provided sizable loans to the developers to help them finance new restaurants. These loans have, in turn, been financed through public stock and convertible debt issues made by Boston Chicken. The case is used as a comprehensive security analysis case, covering strategy analysis, accounting analysis, financial analysis and valuation.Questions to Guide/Be Addressed in Your Case Analysis:
1. Assess Boston Chicken’s business strategy. What are its critical success factors and risks?
2. How is the company reporting on its performance and risks? What are the key assumptions behind these policies? Do you think that its accounting policies reflect the risks?
3. What adjustments, if any, would you make to the firm’s accounting policies?
4. What questions would you ask management about the company’s performance?
5. How is Boston Chicken performing?
6. What assumptions is the market making about the company’s future performance and risks? Do you agree with those assessments?
See attached excel sheet with financials (separate attachment) Develop your case analysis as a paper with an introduction, statement of the issues/problems, body/analysis and conclusions/recommendations sections. See scoring template (separate attachment). You may include a post script to your paper, which comments on recent events associated with the company; however, do not let the “Monday morning quarterback” syndrome drive your analysis. Your analysis should be independent of what has transpired after the situation/time period described in the case

All,
As a reminder, we have a large assignment due by the end of the week. This assignment is equal to 25% of your final grade. The assignment itself is not that complicated but might be a little tricky. It is based on reading a text file into your arrays. Throughout the week there are couple of hands on activities to help you prepare for the final assignment. In addition, the YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx1c3HJlSWc will walk you step-by-step through the process.
I would encourage you all to start working on the final assignment in the next couple of days to allow you time to ask questions and get assistance from your classmates and from me. Waiting for the last minute might be challenging. In addition, starting early would allow you to take advantage of the Arrays Live Labs if you have any specific questions.
Finally, in the final assignment you are evaluated not just on executing your program, I will be also looking at the following competencies:
Programming Fundamentals – If-else Logic, more than one loop, use of arrays and file processing
Problem Solving and Algorithm Development – Well-structured algorithm and meaningful variable names
Programming Logic – Take your logic beyond the minimum requirements, should some originality and add a “WOW” factor
Structures, Verification, and Validation – Make sure to include error checking, meaningful comments to your users
File Processing – You can read and process data from external file
I cannot emphasize enough, don’t wait until the last minute! Start working on your program today, develop the logic, write a Pseudocode, write the program, improve the program and ask questions!
Good luck,
Aviv

Individual Paper A Short Research Paper Is Required As Part Of The Course Object
/in Uncategorized /by developerIndividual Paper
A short research paper is required as part of the course objectives.
Topic: Each student is responsible for selecting a topic for the research paper from one of the topics in the below list.
As you select a topic for your paper, perform some preliminary research to find an aspect that is personally interesting to you. Next, work to narrow the topic substantially so that it will fit the page requirements. Common ways to limit the topic include selecting a specific industry, limiting geography (e.g. not an entire state, but a region or metro area within a state), considering a type of product, and domestic or even local, instead of international logistics. If you are not able to narrow a topic sufficiently, select another topic from the list. Do not select a topic or write a paper that you have used in a previous course.
Select a topic from the list below, but add actual organizations to the topic and research those organizations/those occurrences relating to the topic for your paper. For example, for topic no. 1 below, you could modify the topic to be: Recognizing the importance of strategic logistical issues and their relationship to attainment of supply chain objectives at the McDonalds Corporation. Or for topic number 2, select a public, private, and non-profit organization to research. [Helpful tip: Research BEFORE you pick your topic to ensure that there is material available with which to write the paper. If you do not perform research in advance, you could find yourself scrambling to get the paper submitted in time.]
Topic List (pick one of these and modify it per the above directions):
1. Recognize the importance of strategic logistical issues and their relationship to attainment of supply chain objectives.
2. Measure the environmental forces, trends, and strategic issues facing organizations in both the public, private and non-profit sectors so that students can devise logistics strategies that can deal with these circumstances.
3. Apply the evolving concepts of supply chain management and how the logistics function is expanding into a larger and more proactive role in managing the complete materials cycle. Students will be challenged to devise logistics strategies that mutually support the organization’s marketing and financial efforts.
4. Recognize the importance of internal and external partnering and how logistics organizations are devising strategies where logistics plays a key role within the organization.
5. Devise logistics strategies that consider overall cost of ownership, quality, best value, and optimal inventory objectives.
6. Devise logistics strategies for use of third-party logistics service providers for fulfilling requirements.
7. Recognize trends in international logistics and what factors logistics professionals should consider in planning international logistics options.
8. Apply the broader responsibilities of logistics so that they can contribute to ethical organizational practices, meeting environmental objectives, and improve the attainment of socio-economic programs.
9. Devise a futuristic perspective of what logistics will be like in the next century by examining trends and research on the knowledge and skill requirements for the logistics in the next decade.
10. Recognize the importance of logistics in dealing with natural and humanitarian disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina or war.
Length: The paper should be no less than 5 pages and no more than 8 pages in length (this is for the body only and does not include the cover page, table of contents or reference page). There will not be points deducted if the paper runs slightly over 8 pages. However, keep the page length reasonable. The paper should be typed, double-spaced using a standard typeface. Please use a 10 to 12-point font (use your judgment based upon the font selected) and use 1-inch margins.
