The latin maxim, Dura lex sed lex, is thus highly appropriate in this regard. it means, “The law may be harsh. but it is the law.”

When a country is made up of people of the same race, religion, cultural background, and other such attributes, then the conflict among them would fall along personal traits. But where differences in race, religion, cultural background, and other such attributes exist, then there is added basis by which to perceive imagined injustices.

The affirmative action law, however, is different in that it makes the differences in racial, cultural, or even gender attributes the basis for making a favourable decision on employment. No longer is it just to state that “no distinction must be made,” bit that a distinction should be made precisely on that basis, except where the distinction used to be negative because of prejudice, it is now mandated to be positive by force of law. This is where injustice is alleged.

In the bigger picture, however, it appears that at least for now, we do need affirmative action. These opposing views have significant ramifications for American public opinion, judicial decision making and politics. For example, the Republicans while economically liberal, tend to be socially conservative, especially the fundamental religious right. Therefore, they would more likely support the “pro life” position and be very restrictive in allowing abortions. On the other hand, the Democrats and their supporters tend to be more socially liberal and favor the “pro choice” view. The party in power not only affects abortion legislation , but it can also influence Supreme Court decisions, as the President appoints Justices to replace those retiring Therefore, had Romney been elected President , since he campaigned as a “pro life” candidate, he would likely have appointed Justices he knew would favor his position whenever he could.

He mobilized some members of the community who bought his idea.

King Haigler effort was rewarded though came at a price as he and his crews were humiliated as the Mohawk forced them to dance with their feathers pointing down during the conference. The entire effort saw both Haigler and King Hendrick of the Mohawk share apiece pipe and the Six Nations handed Haigler a wampum belt that marked the beginning of peace (Blumer 34). This event reveals King Haigler’s commitment to step up for his community when he was needed most. He would dare to go to such battled grounds to stop wars and save lives. This underscores his relevance in the history and future of America.
