Accomplishments Inventory Sheet: (see below under “Downloads”) This document will help you gather all of the pertinent information you’ll need to recognize gaps in your experience that may hold you back from reaching your career goals after graduation. Use inventory sheet as a reference to help you identify people who could help you fill those gaps.

Instructions – Networking Opportunities

Before writing your initial post, please read Chapter 11 “Networking Strategy” of Book Yourself Solid. As you will learn, there are many common misconceptions of networking, none more prevalent than “you have to manipulate others to get what you want.” Networking, when executed correctly, is a win-win-win for everyone involved. It is less about making “contacts” and more about connecting with your fellow man or woman.

First, to help you strengthen your current network, think of two (2) people in your current network who consistently support you. We will call these people “Go-Givers.” Now, identify two (2) people in your current network who could add value to the Go-Givers’ work or life. Explain how you intend on connecting these people to each other for the primary reason of benefiting them and not yourself.

Second, to help you expand your network, think of types of people that are not represented in your current network. A strong network will have several types of people as explained in the Forbes article in the Resources section above. We will call these potential connections “Mastermind Group Members.” Identify two (2) types of people you would like to add to your Mastermind Group.

Third, to help you identify where and how you will connect with your potential Mastermind Group Members, think of formal and informal occasions where you could connect with these types of people. Describe two (2) formal and two (2) informal occasions where you intend on connecting with your potential Mastermind Group members and provide a detailed explanation of how you will prepare for these encounters and how you will follow up after the encounter. Remember, informal encounters could include online interactions such as Twitter Chats, LinkedIn Groups, Webinars, and more.

Instructions – Student Choice Activity (Due by Sunday)

Once you have completed your initial post, choose one activity below to complete and share feedback on the discussion board. Also, remember that there is a 300-word minimum.

  • Attend a guest speaking session on campus or online
    • Post a reflection of the session and the impact on your personal brand
  • Interview a professional in your chosen industry
    • Post a Q&A of the interview and the impact on your personal brand
  • Complete a Lynda.com course that will expand your knowledge
    • Post a reflection of the course with a screenshot of your certificate of completion and the impact on your personal brand

Deliverables

Your initial discussion post has a 300-word minimum dedicated to your Networking Strategy. Remember, concise writing will keep your audience tuned in.

Instructions

Part 1:

After reading Chapters 2 and 3 of Business Model You, and watching the GoTo Training session for Week 4, you will be ready to create your Personal Brand Canvas, the one-page solution to tracking your personal brand progress and keeping your brand promises. The adoption of a canvas or one-page business model is a growing trend in business development. This may come as no surprise considering the shrinking attention span of society and the demand for quick, concise messages to cut through the digital noise. This snapshot of your overarching business model can help investors determine their interest in your business or, in our case, help our audience (and ourselves) determine whether or not we are delivering on our brand promises.

As an adaptation of the Business Model You concept, you will create your own one-page solution to tracking your personal brand progress and brand promises. An Italian-based consulting firm, BigName, provides an excellent example of how to apply the Business Model You concepts to a Personal Brand Canvas.

In the Download section below, you will find a keynote template to help you complete your Personal Brand Canvas. Each slide highlights a section of the Canvas for you to fill in your answers. Take one slide at a time and replace the instructional bullet points with your answers. You will notice that many of these elements have already been covered throughout the activities in this Course. If you have been completing each activity you should have no trouble quickly completing your Personal Brand Canvas. The final slide is designed for you to copy and paste your bullet points into each section, giving you a one-page snapshot of your personal brand.

  1. Download the keynote presentation template.
  2. Replace the instructional bullet points on each slide with your answers.
  3. Copy and paste your bullet points into each section on the Personal Brand Canvas.
  4. Save and submit your keynote presentation with your Personal Brand Canvas.

Part 2:

Create three (3) SMART goals you want to achieve for your personal brand. Determine at least one short-term goal that must be achieved by the time you reach the portfolio 2 course, one medium-term goal to be achieved within the next 6-12 months and one long-term goal to be achieved within the next 1-2 years that will each enhance your personal brand.

For each goal, identify at least two (2) tactics you will use to reach that goal (see student example in the download section below). Start by evaluating what efforts you currently have in place.

You will be submitting two (2) files for this assignment. Submit a Keynote presentation that showcases your personal brand canvas using the required keynote template. Also, submit a Word document (PDF and Pages are not accepted) outlining a minimum of three (3) goals and at least two (2) tactic to reach each goal.

Instructions

As part of unearthing your authentic personal brand, you need to consider your life’s purpose, vision, values, passions, experience, skills, and passions. Answering the five most important questions in life can be a daunting task but take these one at a time to ease into this introspective work. The five questions every industry leader (and that means YOU!) can answer boldly are:

  • Who are you?
  • Where are you from?
  • Why are you here?
  • What are you capable of doing?
  • Where are you going?

These five questions pull at our souls and shape the direction of our lives and, thus, our personal brands. To answer the question, “Who am I?” you need to know your core values, vision, and purpose. Your values guide your decisions in life. They help you prioritize and determine whether or not you are living a life of moral clarity. Your vision is external in nature. It is something you see in your mind’s eye that does not yet exist. Your vision is far bigger than yourself, requires inspiring others to come along for the journey, and may reveal something you would like to see change in the world or in your industry. Your purpose is internal in nature. It is your specific role in manifesting your vision. No one else in the world can fulfill your purpose but you. After reading Chapter 1 “Differentiate” of The Brand Gap, answer these three (3) questions in your initial post:

  • Who are you?
  • What do you do?
  • Why does what you do matter to your target audience?

To help you address this last question, read Chapter 2 “Why People Buy What You’re Selling” of Book Yourself Solid Illustrated. Then, include the answers to the following questions in your initial post:

  • Who is your target audience? (Be very specific!)
  • What are your audience’s urgent needs?
  • What is the most important result you provide for your audience?
  • What financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits does your audience receive?

You must base your responses on what you have read in both The Brand Gap and Book Yourself Solid Illustrated.
