The two jar with one another and yet, as the first shot focuses in close-up on Alex’s face, they seem paradoxically suited for one another. The music reflects the violent smirk that is on Alex’s face as he stares straight at the camera, and thus the audience, as his opening voice-over is heard. There are thus two elements to the sound at this point: the synthesized Bach music and Alex’s introduction to his world. The language that Alex uses includes words that do not ordinarily exist in English, but which will be effectively translated by the audience because of their context.

Thus Alex states that he and his “droogs” are “making up our razoodocks” what to do that night. Droog obviously means “friend” and razoodock is probably “mind”. The juxtaposition is increased by the fact that they are drinking milk in a decidedly odd milk-bar that sells some rather suspicious-sounding milk. The shot draws back from a close-up to a medium shot to a long shot of the whole bar, with the nude female mannequins that act as chairs. The film that started with music has now introduced the audience to a strange, surreal, threatening world: and it was the first blast of synthesized Bach that led the audience to the door.

In the next scene a close-up of a hand holding a whisky bottle with another empty bottle besides it is essentially serenaded by a drunken voice singing an old Irish song. It is as if the bottle were singing, but as the shot steadily draws out the drunk is revealed. Alex and his droogs come into the scene as shadows and it is there footsteps that are heard, casual and yet ominous, just as Alex starts to tell the audience how he could not stand drunks and drunken singing. The echoing sound of the singing and the footsteps make once again for a surreal world, one that reflects the stark lighting that makes their shadows enormously long.

Echoing, rather distorted voices continue on the soundtrack as Alex and the old man argue with one another and then the Droogs start to beat him up. Here Kubrick introduces the idea that violence can be seen and heard as a dance. Thus the rhymic beating of the various weapons against the man’s body sound like perverted musical instruments to which their howls of joy at indulging in violence are an accompaniment. Just before the jump cut to the theatre scene the waltz music that accompanies this is introduced. This time it is a girl’s screams that acts in unison with the music: violence and beautiful melodies again juxtaposed. It takes a full ten seconds for Kubrick to actually reveal in a visual manner what is happening in the scene: essentially this is secondary to the two sounds put against one another.

The fact that the attempted rape of the girl is shot in a distancing long-shot adds to the importance of the sound.

For example, USAS seeks to influence universities to obtain their clothes in factories that respect the rights of workers especially the freedom to join trade unions (Ravisanker Rajeev 87). Therefore, USAS and other student groups have a significant effect in improving the actual working conditions in foreign countries.

The groups can help improve the poor working conditions by joining the efforts of other humanitarian associations that hold campaigns to condemn workers’ exploitation. Since most sweatshop companies target students as their major consumer, efforts to condemn abuse of worker’s rights will have an impact on management of these companies. Students can use their universities’ procurement department to air their dissatisfaction with the poor working condition. Students can maximize on the advantage and the fact that the universities buy clothing items such as sports clothing from companies that make them cheaply (Miller, 98). The students can use the university to give an ultimatum to these companies to change the poor working conditions or the universities will stop buying from them. Losing the huge client base that universities offer these companies is a huge risk that the companies may not be willing to take. The students can appeal to the distribution companies to speak against exploitation of labor and advocate for a change in working conditions. Working with the students to end oppression at work place is a good way to build their brand image (Park 57).

Therefore, students can convince these companies to approach their suppliers and advocate for a safer working environment for their workers (Ravisanker Rajeev 87). Failure to this, the students may threaten to stop buying clothes from the distributor, who in turn will stop buying from the suppliers. In addition, students groups can influence other students to stop buying clothes from any business that is associated with the oppressive cloth manufacturers until the working conditions are improved. They proposed the paths to include. forming, storming, norming, performing and finally the adjourning stages. It is for this reason that any team leader should endeavor to know the characteristics of each stage so that he/she can find and adopt the necessary skills to deal with the members challenges. The following essay is about the stages passed through by the sales team formed by Barclays Bank to increase their market share by selling loans and other products to which I was a member.

Forming Stage

This stage was characterized by a lot of curiosity and excitement as many of us were not yet sure of the real purpose of the team. Most people at this stage did not know each other and their ability/skills. However, the team members were polite and receptive to each other. The team leader was very initiative and more result-oriented. He introduced us to major tasks in a bid to maximize friendly atmosphere to see tasks adopted and completed in time. He was very directive at this level and walked through the team giving directions.

Storming Stage

Here we had several disagreements and conflicts amongst ourselves as other members realized the tasks were quite challenging. Some colleagues became totally incorporative with each other, even questioning the authority of the team leader and his roles other thereby fuelling the conflicts. This, however, is expected at this stage according to (Eyre & Mind Tool Team, 2014). They suggest that the leader should be assertive and more positive to the main goal, skills that were absent in our team leader. They recommend that He/she should even consider training members on conflict resolution and explain to them that whatever was happening at that stage was normal (Eyre & Mind Tool Team, 2014). This was not the case with our leader.

Norming

Funnily, at this, level, the team witnessed more reconciliation amongst the members as they got to understand each other better. We had more interactions and consultations amongst ourselves. The team leader was also very creative going by his decision to organize a team building bash for us. The team members behavior at this stage was a reminiscent of the expected characteristics of this stage according to Elizabeth. However, some members almost tripped back to making grudges with other colleagues but this was resolved, and they got back together well.

Performing Stage

We arrived at this stage after the conflicts in the previous stages had been resolved. The goal of the team was met but with two members less. These were members who decided to quit at the second stage. Most employees now understood their roles and could perform them with ease. Supervision and guidance roles were reduced, and the leader devolved some of his functions to more knowledgeable members as he/she embarked on developing others. All these happened because the team leader remained focused on his duties.

Majorly the problems facing group development at Barclays is poor leadership. This was addressed by training the group leaders on the challenges of groups and how to overcome them.
