 hi dear,

can help me to finish this assignment with good quality and be on time please?

Please follow the instructor carefully.  You are expected to post a primary response to the discussion topic. All posts should address the discussion topic/question, add to the discussion, and/or encourage others to respond. Facts and claims MUST be supported with APA format citations and references. Use personal experience, course resources such as textbook and additional readings, library references and resources, and well-reputed internet sources, which includes reputable media sources, as well as scholarly sources. Your primary response to the topic/questions posed should be 2 -3 paragraphs, and be thoughtful, well-written, and include appropriate APA in-text citation(s) and reference(s) when appropriate.

This week discussion is centered on drafting a letter to your local representative regarding a position on a piece of legislation.

Communicating with elected officials is an important part of public health advocacy.  Written communication to the different branches of government is often used by health and advocacy groups to ensure their perspective is considered in the debate on an issue.

Advocacy groups often engage their member advocates in campaigns to directly communicate to their representatives to assure the community voice is included in the discussions and to influence legislators and regulators.  Constituents’ (you, the residents and voters) input on issues is a valued part of the democratic process and should not be underestimated.  Elected officials often make decisions about voting, and even introducing bills in response to public communication. You are writing a draft letter for your primary post.

· Visit this site or this site to find different representatives you may be interested in writing an advocacy letter to. Enter your address to find your representatives at the Federal, state and local level. Identify which level of government you wish to send a letter to and find that elected official’s address.

——————————————

· For the letter:

· Begin your letter and include the representatives name and legislative title you are writing the letter to:

The Honorable John Doe,

US Congress, 53rd District

123 Elm St

San Diego CA 92103

· Include the constituents (your) local address, email address or web form url in the address line (this information can be created and does not have to be your actual information).

· Have an introduction and an advocacy issue appeal (should be at least three paragraphs total).

· The introduction includes information about your personal experience, education, and interests and must include a statement of your constituency. It also introduces the issue you want to have addressed in one sentence or less. The advocacy appeal is a statement on behalf of a community asking for the issue to be addressed, thanking them for a recent vote on the issue, or expressing disappointment or concern about their vote or an issue .  It often includes education about the issue, and is backed up by fact. For this assignment, your appeal should include a policy option. Advocacy for a general solution about the problem includes suggesting a policy option or principle you think will address the problem.

· Constituency means all the people (voters), served by a particular elected official, especially a legislator. In other words, a district that is representative of a specific legislator. For example, I live in Carlsbad, which is the 49th congressional district in California. It is represented by Congressman Darrell Issa

· Do NOT lobby (your letter may not ask for a specific bill, or a specific way to vote)

· Please review the advocacy sample letter in your text. This is a perfect example of a way to advocate for a cause without leaning towards lobbying. The example is in Chapter 17, p.335. Read the paragraph prior to the example letter that begins with: “There are many ways to advocate on behalf of a public health issue….”.

For more details about writing letters to elected officials, see the Community Toolbox: http://ctb.ku.edu/en/table-of-contents/advocacy/direct-action/letters-to-elected-officials/main

Other sample letters:

APHA: these are a bit lengthy, but helps you understand the gist of letters to congress, etc…

American Lung Association: sample letters

Each student will also respond to two peer posts.  Each peer post is expected to give constructive feedback to your peers,  to identify ways that this letter could be improved or enhanced.  Use course concepts.

Sources:

· You are required to use at least TWO sources from the textbook, government reports, peer-reviewed journal articles or textbooks. Use your OWN WORDS (e.g., do not cut and paste from a government report or article).

·  Paraphrase (use your own words) to report the information.

· Include APA formatted in-text citations to identify your sources AND include full APA formatted references for your sources at the end of your post.

Public Health Legislation Paper- Signature Assignment Description

For the final paper, students are required to write a minimum five-page paper (not including title, references, or abstract) that reflect knowledge and understanding gained in your coursework.

Identify a legislation (passed in the United States) that has had a significant impact on the burden and distribution of disease, injury, and affects health disparities.

Students are advised to only look at policies that have been in effect for more than three years so that data may be collected and reported, enabling you to compare the policy impact, even preliminarily. The selected legislation could impact behavior, social determinants of health, or the environment in the context of where people live, play, or work. Your text is a wealth of information that includes many different policies and associated references.

When choosing the policy to write your paper on, consider the significance of a piece of legislation in terms of impact.  In general, the broader or deeper the impact on a population, a health issue, an important health disparity, or social or economic aspects, the more significant it is.  For example, legislation that has resulted in setting legal blood alcohol concentration levels has positively impacted health outcomes and decreased economic costs. It is not recommended to select legislation that is disjointed, or does not have a large amount of readily available information for you to review (this should tell you that the impact of the legislation is not necessarily significant). It is suggested that different topic should be chosen.

Components that need to be addressed and included:

· Describe the health problem that the legislation was intended to impact and provide descriptive statistics (incidence, prevalence) related to the health issue in the jurisdiction (State, county, nation, zip code, etc..) of the law before legislation was enacted.  The statistics you provide should be appropriate to the level of government that the policy was intended to address. For example, if it is a statewide policy, include statistics that are relative to that state.

· Describe public health legislation (law, policy, ordinance) in the United States. Through description of the specific legislation (policy) and the level of government (federal, state, local jurisdiction) that enacted the legislation.

  • Describe the group(s)       (adults, children, elderly, gender, etc.), communities (ethnic,       socio-economic status, urban, rural, etc.) and municipalities, state or       governments it is intended to impact.
  • Describe how has it made       an impact on the burden and distribution (across age groups, ethnicities,       SES, gender) of disease or injury and its impact on populations, whether       it is a specific community, a municipality, an entire state or the       nation.

· Compare the burden and distribution of the disease, injury, or health problem using statistics that this legislation was intended to address before and after the legislation was enacted. How did/has it changed?

· Identify and describe health disparities among populations (differences across groups) that exist prior to the policy being enacted and after policy implementation. Did the implementation have a positive or negative impact?

· Explain the financial impact of the disease and the impact the legislation has had.  Include research that shows the burden of cost before the legislation was enacted (health care costs, productivity, etc.) and show the difference or make a comparison on the cost savings after the law was adopted. Economic impact can be inferred from other economic data related to the problem, population or policy.

· Correctly identify and use primary and secondary data to support the impact assessment of the burden of disease and financial costs.

· Integrate course concepts into your analysis. Students are expected to use concepts learned in this course, such as, policy description/understanding; advocacy, etc…

· Conclusion: Your critical analysis (backed by facts) is key to this paper. (For example, when you are comparing impacts, think about  what did it impact, to what degree, what factors might have played a complementary role, why did this occur.) You might also pose what might have improved this legislation or what some of the problems and recommendations you might make.

· You should have at least 4 scholarly sources cited and referenced in your paper. You are required to use at least 2 scholarly sources for the impact on the burden and the distribution of disease or injury, and at least 2 scholarly sources for its impact and Public Health Advocacy and Communication. Information from the textbook, assigned readings or prior courses is encouraged and may count towards one of your 4 sources.

· Print should be 12-point font (Times New Roman or Arial), with margins of one (1) inch on all four sides.  All papers submitted must have APA formatting. The written assignments must reflect college-level writing and thinking. Please view this link for an example APA formatted paper: http://www.apastyle.org/manual/related/sample-experiment-paper-1.pdf. No abstract is required. Papers not following proper APA format will be deducted appropriately.

Discussion one,

 Dear Senator Feinstein,

I am writing as a man in support of women’s constitutional rights and respectfully request that you do not sign Senate Bill S. 109

Birth control is health care, and I want everyone who wants or needs it to have it — no matter where they live, how much money they make, or who employs them. I oppose the administration’s latest attempt to let bosses and schools decide who gets birth control coverage. The rules unlawfully discriminate against women in violation of the Constitution by impeding access to women’s health care while leaving men’s health care untouched and requiring women to pay more for basic health care.

S. 109 is the latest attempt by anti-abortion politicians to eliminate insurance coverage of abortion.  This bill could result in entire private insurance market dropping abortion coverage and would make permanent existing, harmful restrictions on Medicaid coverage of abortion. Nobody should be penalized for seeking or providing comprehensive health coverage.

S.109 would force millions to go without abortion coverage and provides very narrow exceptions only for when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest and when a physician has certified that the person’s life is in danger. Without coverage for abortion and not letting women and their families control their futures we can force people to pay for the procedure out of pocket and it may force them into bankruptcy.

Thank you for your long-standing support for women’s rights. I urge you to stand against S. 109.

Discussion two,

Dear Governor Newsom,

I am writing this letter today to address some concerns I have with the nutritional options being given to our youth within the California school system.  As an employee of Etiwanda School District, I work closely with the students and have had the opportunity to join them in their meal time activity. To say that I was appalled by the choices that were given is an understatement. The National School Lunch Program was created to provide the funding for nutritional lunches for students at an affordable cost. With a program such as this in place, parents are led to believe their children are being offered healthy meal options at school.

Upon entering the lunch room the students are presented with choices for their meals. Some of these choices include pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and french fries. Most of the items on the menu are extremely high in fat and sodium. While each of these items has the option of fruit or salad on the side, nearly all students refuse them. Furthermore, their beverage options are either milk or chocolate milk. The sugary choice filled with chocolate is usually the preferred option by children. The only students who are given an alternative are those with milk allergies. While milk is supposed to be a healthier option, The Australian Government Department of Health shows that chocolate milk actually contains more sugar than a juice alternative.

In writing this letter it is my hope that you are able to fit our children’s nutritional wellbeing into your agenda. There have been many other modifications made to school lunches, such as limited condiments and no soda or candy being allowed. This however is not enough. As a parent I would hope that the schools would have the ability to provide healthy options for my children, but this may require more funding for our schools nutrition program on the states part. With your assistance our youth will have the ability to grow in a healthier manner.

I want to thank you for your time and consideration, as well as your support in this matter.

Thanks,

Phamacology Paper

Write for your organization a 3–5-page impact report regarding the health concerns of a new immigrant population. Describe the population’s health concerns and issues, explain current pharmacological treatments, and explain how culture and traditional practices may affect use of pharmacology. Identify evidence-based strategies for the organization and nursing staff to use to educate the population and promote health and wellness.

Imagine the county health department notifies your organization that a large number of immigrants are expected to be resettled in your area. The organization, wanting to be prepared to handle any health concerns of the population, tasks each department with readying for the influx of immigrants. Your supervisor asks you to prepare an impact report on the pharmacological needs of the population that can be shared with other departments.

Preparation

Complete the following as you prepare for your impact report:

  1. Choose one of the global areas below as the area from which the population will be coming.
    • Sub-Saharan Africa.
    • India.
    • China.
    • Dominican Republic.
    • Guatemala.
    • Jamaica.
    • Bangladesh.
    • Saudi Arabia.
    • Pakistan.
    • Mexico.
  2. Research the most common health concerns and issues for immigrants from your chosen global area, the pharmacological treatments that will likely be prescribed, and any cultural values or traditional practices that may impact patient outcomes.

Requirements

Once you have identified the population you will be using for this assessment, include the following in your impact report:

  • Describe the health concerns and issues for the population.
  • Describe current pharmacological treatment regimens for the main health concerns and issues.
  • Explain any traditional beliefs and practices associated with the health concerns and issues. Does the population engage in culturally based methods of treating the health concern?
  • Explain how cultural values and traditional practices might affect acceptance and use of prescribed pharmacological treatments. Be sure to consider the relationship between quality patient outcomes, patient safety, and the appropriate use of pharmacology.
  • Identify evidence-based, culturally sensitive strategies the organization can use to educate the population about the correct use of the pharmacology treatments.
  • Identify evidence-based, culturally sensitive strategies the nursing staff can employ with the population to promote health and wellness.

Write this assessment as an impact report formatted as other reports of a similar nature in your organization or an organization with which you are familiar. Include a title page and reference page and follow APA guidelines for your in-text citations and references.

Additional Requirements

  • Number of pages: 3–5
  • At least 3 current scholarly or professional resources.
