mechanics of materials homework help

PROBLEM 1 The uniformly distributed loaded composite steel beam is shown in Figure 1(a). The steel composite sections consist of two steel plate 230×20 mm and a universal beam section 610UB125 are bolted together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 1(b). The 610UB125 sectional properties are given in Figure 1(c) and Table 1. The modulus of elasticity for steel is 200 GPa. For the beam and loading shown in Figure 1, determine: 1) the equation of the elastic curve in the terms of w, L, E, and I ; 2) the deflection at midspan of B; 3) the slope at A.PROBLEM 2 Knowing that beam AB is a composite section and a 300PFC and a 610UB125 are welded together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 2(b). P = 60 kN, L = 2 m, and E = 200 GPa, determine: 1) the elastic curve equation in term of P, L, E and I 2) the slope at A; 3) the deflection at C.

PROBLEM 3 For the beam and loading shown in Figure 3, 1) express the magnitude and location of the maximum deflection in the terms of w0, L, E, and I. 2) Calculate the value of the maximum deflection, assuming that beam AB is a 310UB46.2 section (See Table 2) and that w0 = 68 kN/m, L = 5.5 m and E = 200 GPa.

PROBLEM 4 For the cantilever beam and loading shown Figure 4, use principle of superposition to determine the slope and deflection at point C. (Hint: Use the Beam Deflections and Slopes Table on page A29, Beer et al., Textbook or next page)

final essay 102

The American Dream lecture in Week 1 points out that Poor Richard’s Almanac was an annual publication that included calendar lists, home recipes, weather forecasts etc. What made Franklin’s almanac unlike other almanacs was the inclusion of Franklin’s witty parables and humorous writings. Franklin proposes in “The Way to Wealth” that anyone who works hard, avoids debt, and works toward attaining a virtuous character can be successful and ultimately wealthy—that the American Dream is accessible to all.

Watch either The Color Purple or The Great Gatsby (locate the films using Netflix, Amazon, or your local library) and argue why or why not Franklin’s assertions are correct. Provide examples from the film and your own explanations to support your assertions.

Your will have two choices for your thesis statement:

As is evident in the film The Color Purple (or The Great Gatsby), Franklin’s assertion that the American Dream is available to all people is incorrect because _________, ___________, and _________ (you will determine three points in support of your thesis, and those will become the topics of your three body paragraphs).

help with this assingment

Apply a critical thinking principle to readings 7-10 (the “noteworthy debates” readings). Again: for this class, we mean something specific by critical thinking (ruling out rival hypotheses, falsifiability, replicability, extraordinary claims, Occam’s razor, correlation vs. causation). Ask me if you have questions! You should use a different one for each reading, but one repeat is fine. You do not have to conclude that the readings are wrong – if there is evidence of replicability or falsifiability, you can say so, just provide evidence to back up your claim and explain why. If you use direct quotes, you must also state the quote in your own words immediately to demonstrate your understanding.

2. Look into the mirror!

A. Imagine a way—based in the readings—that your future self could act or benefit from unconscious bias. Please pick two unique examples: a way that unconscious bias could affect you AND a way that you could contribute to or benefit from systemic bias.

B. How might you use the threat-based approach to prejudice to reduce your own biases or the biases of those around you?

3. Again, define social justice as you see it, using the readings to explain your perspective. How do these biases occur? Which method of reducing prejudice that we discussed do you think will best help us achieve social justice as a society?

Make sure to note any changes in how you understand the topics of social justice.

film analysis essay on a short segment from a film under 5 minutes

Step 1: Choose a short segment from a film (under 5 minutes). The choice is up to you but try to make it interesting. (Avoid Tarantino movies, The Shawshank Redemption, or Disney and Marvel.)

Step 2: Use the film analysis template (on Blackboard) to analyze the segment shot-by-shot. You can print this out if you have a printer at home.

Step 3: Watch the Powerpoint on BB about writing on film. Watch it twice!

Step 4:Write a 2-3 page analysis/interpretation of the segment. This must take the form of an essay. It should have a clear argumentative thesis.*

Address mise-en-scene and cinematography.

Do not write extensively on sound. You may mention sound briefly if it’s relevant to your thesis.

Do notturn in a mere description of the plot.Analyze and interpret.

Refer to my examples “Maltese Falcon Analysis” and “American Beauty” on Blackboard.

Steph 5:Review the checklist for film essays.

Step 6:Proofread your paper and then upload your essay to Blackboard.

Due Date: April 10th, 11:59pm.

how to write a response

Readings: Food & Society chs. 1 “Study of Food” & 3 “Food as Spectacle”

Film clips: Tampopo, Big Night, Pretty Woman Prompt:

As your textbook and our film clips demonstrate, enjoying food in a restaurant requires and reveals different levels of “cultural capital” (a term you should be familiar with form your reading to date). Having food delivered also requires and reveals a certain status as a consumer in a food system like ours. Building off of the “multiple identities” addressed by the slides on “Men Nurturing Through Food,” our different identities within the Food System still equate us in one important way as Consumers within that system who have to negotiate our various identity work and personal foodways accordingly. Think here, for example, of the case of keeping Kosher in such a system, of maintaining an ethically vegan diet, of numerous health & nutrition practices or allergy care efforts in one’s day-to-day consumption practices. Still, we are all buyers and eaters (one has to buy seeds to plant them, in all but a few marginal cases). So, focus on your current identity work as a Pandemic/Quarantined Consumer in the Food System: what forms of cultural capital do you recognize in your various food access or any Culinary Tourism capabilities you still engage? Reflect a bit on the ‘hidden’ labor now relied upon in new or unexpected ways, such as the delivery driver or grocery clerk, and how one might expect one’s future food agency (see the final slide from the Week 1-2 deck) to have changed one year from now.
