southeast asian americans study
- Read Erika Lee, “In Search of Refuge: Southeast Asians in the United States”
- Examine the “SEAA Table”: What does it suggest about how SEAAs are doing?
- Complete this Week’s Assignment by Friday at midnight.
Please review the SEAA table and submit 2-3 paragraphs: (a) describing the pattern(s) you see in the table, and (b) discussing what you think might explain that/those pattern(s). Please note: we’re at the start of the quarter and so there is no expectation of scholarly proficiency in your answer. I’m just looking for what strikes you as a likely explanation, or set of explanations, just off the top of your head. You don’t even have to have read the Erika Lee chapter before you write it.
An alternative format for this writing assignment (but also 2-3 paragraphs): If you want to have some fun with this, you can try to imagine what an ordinary American (non-Southeast Asian American / non-Asian American / certainly non-Asian Am. major or minor) might see in the table, what they might say it, and how they might explain the pattern(s) in it. If you choose this possibility, you might consider writing it as if you were a reporter conducting person-on-the-street interview (so a short preface describing the circumstances of the interview (time, place, setting) and the interviewee (Joe Blow), followed by a question-and-answer (Q&A) format.
